Sean's Powerlifting Journey

I appreciate it man. Haven't seen you on in a while. How's lifting?

Herderdude here is blessed enough to train with him sometimes.
Good man. Haven't been on here in a few years I think. 8 weeks out from my next meet. Looking for 1500 raw.
The Super D stuff worked for my RC, but I cannot say that my bench is up there, so...
Worked great for me. My bench is about 380 to 390. I have bicep tendon issues and it seems to be helping a lot.

The bicep was my biggest issue too. Couldn't unrack 200+ without excruciating pain

Donnie Thompson had a lot of shoulder mobility work that he has published recently. I've been doing his stuff before benching and its definitely been helping. I went to his injury prevention seminar in April and it was super beneficial. Throwing around some weight in here bro. Looks good.

At Pgh International? I was the guy that brought the x wives.

I may have found a steel guy to hop on the tempering train.

Bottom of bench is where it can hurt/destroy my tightness as well. Lots of it for me came from adjusting how I hold the bar when I squat actually. Maybe that will help if you guys didn't think of that.

herderdude

Where'd you get your tempering tools? X wife and step child is what I'm looking for.

I've got a steel guy, if you can't buy them lol I'll need to know the weight of those two lol

Tyga knows a guy haha. But yeah talk to your steel guy. X wife is 5" diameter by 24" length. Stepchild is 2" diameter by 24" length. You can powder coat the stepchild too.

You're the man. I've been flossing my elbow and mashing my tricep, sub scap, bicep and forearm, it's helping some but I think that stepchild would work better (for the elbow problemo)

*sorry for the derail here Sean

525 is probably a wrapless PR. Good day. I feel like I'm getting stronger. I'm acquiring so much hip tension that I thought I was cutting all my reps high as F. Bodyweight has been 222-225 ever since the meet.

Enjoy the fuked up fishbowl view. Wifey got me a gopro for Father's Day/Bday. Dunno what to do with it other than lift and do stupid crap at work with it.

Awesome session man. Always enjoy watching your GMs to remind me of all the crap I need to be doing with them (fishbowl and all).

Thanks, man. I won't be doing them heavy for quite a while again. I think it's a lift that could fuk your world up real fast if you compromise your positioning.

I've never tried a safety bar before. They look like they'd make GM's a whole lot more comfortable. I hear that squatting with one is harder though??

Agreed - I maxed on them as part of some of Darden's programming right before my overreach this cycle and I definitely tweaked my mid back (too much rounding). I was able to make some adjustments, moved in some hypers in lieu of GMs and the training cycle was quite successful overall, but it's definitely a movement that will punish you for any incompetence. Sets of 5-15 is where it's at.

Tsb is a Texas squat bar?

Yessir

It's like giving a fat person a shoulder ride and bending over. It's terrible.

I feel like squatting with it makes you squat 'better' but it's still a touch harder.

Nice. We have a TSB in the gym that Im at. I'm not a big fan of it. I would love to get my hands on an Iron Wolfe bar. Good call on the SSB in the offseason. I'll be doing the same after my meet in August. SSB and cambered bar... gotta save the shoulders.

Agreed on all. RPS uses an Iron Wolfe and it's more brutal than the TSB. I heard the Iron Wolfe buffalo bar is great, but I'm not the biggest fan of buffalo bars (only because I'm not used to it).

Yeah the IW bar is much more brutal. I made the mistake of wearing a sleeveless shirt for my squats at my last meet. I was cut up for over a week.

I like the video pixels. Nice.

Just ordered this (split between me and a couple others at the gym) Can't wait

Do you use this regularly or only for meets?

5 bux a whack; that's a buck cheaper than Nose Tork if you buy it in the 3 packs. Lemme know how it is, because for $1 I'm liable to keep using the Tork unless it's for sure as good. I will say that Nose Tork is such a mess, the way it leaks. I always keep mine in a small tub to contain the leak so I can carry it in my gym bag.

And Thomas, I only use it for meets and maximal attempts in the gym. Not like 3RM stuff, I mean only on 1RM stuff where I need to be really present and the chance of missing is very real. Maybe for a really heavy final set of blockpulls of 2-3 reps. But these would be at least RPE 9 if I was using ammonia.

If I were to get one for max singles, would I be better off with Tork or ammonia salts?

Rarely. I only used it at my last meet for deadlifts. You get used to it fast (with Nose Tork or caps at least). A slap in the face via smellin salts is nice once in a blue moon when you need woken up for a second.

If I hit it hard for squat or bench I kind of lose my mind to the point that it's hard to focus on the cues I need to set up right. I just kind of gently huff it in little wiffs while getting my mind right before squat and bench. More for keeping my mind present and alert. Deadlift I go for the smack in the face approach.

The little single use crush packets are pretty cheap on amazon and are more than strong enough for most people (and consistent, unlike a bottle that weakens over time). If you only use them for 1RM testing a pack of 10 lasts quite a while.

Agreed on all accounts on the SSB Sean. Great wrapless PR. I'm starting to take for granted the numbers you post haha.

My gym has the IW bar and I personally like it, but it does leave its marks. Once it is one your back it ain't moving lol. Their bench bar is good too.

I must be doing it wrong. I don't use any of that sorcery you all are speaking of...

Hey, since you are the powerliftingmeets website guru, did the link to find a local PL gym disappear? I couldn't find it yesterday.
