Sean's Powerlifting Journey

I do the Dan green style knee lock myself. Seemed to remove any ******* form issues I had in gear and is a habit now for raw. Also stops me from ever ramping or hitching.

I hate it when I see the top level woman totally smashing my numbers. I watched a video of a 75kg ish girl squat 280kg RAW not long ago. I like to think it was fake though. I have to otherwise I'd just give up.

One of my female clients is closing in on my bench at the progress she's making, I'm scared.

So here's a set from earlier. My AC was bugging me but for some reason, ring on ring felt good. It shortened the stroke up a bit. I think my biggest issue is not keeping my forearms stacked underneath the bar. My elbows always seem to end up in front of the bar when I'm at the chest. I even focused on it and avoided over tucking. Grip issue maybe?

The first rep looked the best. I pressed more in a straight line and my forearm was under the bar. 2nd rep was meh, then the third you can see my elbows travel in front of the bar.

Why the **** does bench pressing even have to be a thing?

Ever tried flexing your Tris on the way down? Seems to give me a perfect bar path each and every time also I press through my elbows which keeps me in line on the press.

That boggles my mind and have no idea what that would be like lol

I'll try it next week. If I hit a bench press PR because of that tip, I'll send you a dollar for every pound I gained lol

It was weird for me too at first. But the first day I tried it I hit 315 warming up for shirt work then hit 550+ off some board for a double PR. Never looked back.

I also struggle to grasp this. I have had success lately pushing the bar into my belly waiting for the press. It's also a weird cue. Pull into the sternum area, then after touch push it into my belly. Seems to load me up and helps push the bar in the right direction.

Totally trying the tricep flex on bench saturday. I'll be a week out, so it's the perfect time to play with my form :dunce:

And agreed on bench mainly just being the filler to rest between squatting and pulling.

Let me know how it goes for you. Could really help those of us with less then amazing benches.

Had a couple busy days at work but I managed to kick most of this cold to the curb and got my appetite back.

Squats felt good. I ****ed around with the lowbar after. It felt like I was cutting them 5" high but I watched the video and I was unquestionably way below parallel. Is it odd that the front squats opened my hips so well?

Thank ya, dmax.

Ah..it might appear that my record will fall in a couple of weeks. Some kid is gonna be attempting 645/715/735 I think. So, looks like I may be doing the October meet if that goes down.

Unfortunately records are made to be broken. U got it now and your still the man in my book

U front squat the same as me wide I find it really hit my inner thigh and hips hard

Yeah I agree. Good for him for having that sick squat. It just motivated me to compete again this year. Me and him wagered first to 800 lol

I hate front squats. I'm all loosey goosey.

Still need to see it! We saw Jurassic World Thursday and if you enjoyed the original you'll def appreciate this one. People gettin' eaten left and right!

^yup, saw it last night with the gf. I thought it was really good too

I thought the purpose of the FS was to stay narrow stance(d)? I'm working on that same grip tho...

Wife and I decided to go last night for our first movie In a while. We almost chose Mad Max, and I wish we did. :(

That stance IS narrow for me. I can go more narrow, but it doesn't work so well with my hips and I don't feel the benefit in it.

Are those compression shorts or something a little fancier?

Why does everyone hate conv?

No, just compression shorts.

Because sumo is my preferred stance. It feels better and I'm much stronger at it. Conventional is much easier technique wise, though....just more weak. Only people I see saying they hate conventional, is people that pull sumo.
