Sean's Powerlifting Journey

Any stiffness or just one of those days?

I think it's just one of those days I think. Nothing is tight, but just didn't feel as mobile as normal. Was at work since Friday and really didn't stretch at all the entire time.

I might move my grip out. Felt it in my shoulders a tad. Ever have that happen?

Can't say I have.

Looking good in here, Sean. Bunch of USPA American records set at that KC meet this past weekend. This 18yr old kid barely in the 132 raw class from STL pulled 413 during a 4th attempt, & this chick from the town next to me that was 20 pulled 391 conventional at 148.

I set a meet PR for dead, won my non-existent class by default since nobody else was 20-23 mens, 198 modern raw, & actually broke the astonishingly low IL USPA state record w/ my 3rd squat by 22lbs. So it was a lot of fun

I see you found me on instagram...Strongman group, you gonna go lift some manly stuff too?

Was creeping through Rob's and saw ya (along with a bunch of hot girls?)

It'd be cool to do instead of the typical weak point day on the weekend. He will have a men's and women's yoke, full sized log, kegs, stones 70-300+, car deadlift rig, truck harness, extra 1500 in plates, ect. I'll only be able to do it every other Saturday so figured why not.

lol hot girls on my account, or Rob's?You typically only do event training once a week anyways, so gopher it, I'm very jelly. You can throw in some car deadlifts for a variation too.

haha on robs account, but I saw that one female client of yours too..

And I just wanna do the yoke and cardeadlift more than any of it

Try the stones, I love stones. I've been wanting to get my hands on a 350+ stone to see what I can load. Also do heavy farmers.

Hell yeah man! I don't know who Kevin Nee is, but I bet he's scrong.
Youngest ever to do WSM IIRC.

You say that, until you feel a heavy yoke crushing your soul.

Also, car deadlift is much more similar to a hack squat than a DL. So be prepared for some major quad pain.

Ah yes, he will have a bunch of farmer handles too.

We have a 350lb stone now. No one can lift it so it's out front holding down the sign for the gym lol

Hopefully they get the ball rolling on it soon.

Seriously? No one?

I know tons of guys who can throw that around like it is paper machete.

Two random people tried I think and no one there does any Strongman stuff whatsoever so he just rolled it out front. Not like a lot of effort was put into it lol

Just left the chiro. Showed him yesterday's sumo pulls and told him to make my hips open better. Apparently my adbuctors were right as ****. Fixed.

If I were to use weight releasers with bench press today just because it sounds fun, how much would I want to put on the releasers?

Prob like 60-80lbs. I used 100 and that was hard. Play it by ear and see what you can handle. Maybe you find there's a certain weight you're comfortable pressing and a different weight you're comfortable receiving and you can work backwards from there.

Pretty much this. If it's for S&Gs, just have fun to break up the monotony.

The amount of weight really doesn't mean jack **** because I had the slingshot and shoulder saver...but I miss heavy and am still babying my shoulders. Still no reminence of my right impinged RC, and left AC wasn't buggy until the 315 but that was because of a quick loss of back tightness. Vids of the 315 were cut short. Need to clear space again.

I'm happy with my setup. I've been able to reciprocate it for the past few weeks. Not butt lift, optimal leg drive, and if I follow Chris Duffins arching protocol, I'm able to arch in the thoracic and not the lumbar.

Hey man, that's awesome. Your still getting used to holding heavier weight, shoulder is getting better...I'd say your doing good.

Your gonna have some mean totals once you are able to bench consistently

Ha! Started already. Cramped each set at 275 and up. Felt the entire length of the lat lock up.

I tried kicking my feet back like yours, seein if I could get my knees below the hip joint any more. I couldn't get any leg drive off it so I'm content with where things are at now.

Have you tried rotating your feet internally a bit more?

It almost looks like only the outside of the foot is in contact with the floor, which will limit surface area and leg drive.

The only way my hips would allow me to get my feet turned in, is with a narrower stance, which will result in butt lift. Maybe I'll just mobilize my hips real fast as I would for squats and see if that will let me turn my heels out.

I have to do the psoas band traction release before I bench or I can't get any leg drive.

I like stretching out the front of the hips with the good old kneel, grab your foot behind your ass, and then contract and relax the glutes over and over for the front.

Good calls on both. Will definetly add it to the protocol.

I dunno if you guys have ever taken a Rumble Roller to your ribcage or not, but it's ****ing terrible.

Never did that but the rumble roller is the only thing I can get my obliques good with. I'm too scared to actually hit the ribs haha

Not to interrupt I got a question that has to do with bench

When I bench my lower back always hurts I started wearing a belt because of it is there a stretch or something else I should be doing?

If your aching and your lower back hurts, it's most likely because you're arching in the lumbar and not the thoracic. YouTube Chris Duffin bench press arch, I think. Just a quick warmup for the thoracic.

To get rid of it? Some spinal flossing stuff, birddogs, dangle upside down from two heavy bands.
