Second set was a big improvement in terms of staying tight and shoving yourself into the bench, bud. Good repping for just getting back into it. It will take some time before your technique comes all the way back. How'd that bottom end feel with no slingshot support?

Weak lol but pain free. I think Swiss Bar is harder than straight bar, so I'm very happy with what I could rep today. I think the only thing moving the weight is my back.
 
I agree, man. Swiss bar is tough. You may be all back right now, but that bar will perk your titties up in a hurry.

When you say the bar, you mean the entire weight, right? This is possible with both sumo and conv?

Depending on the bar, yes, the weight. With a DL bar, the outer plates may still be touching, but not the inner plates. It's not as big a deal with conventional as it is with sumo, but you still want to have the flex out of the bar before initiating the lift.
 
In that elitefts dl manual some folks were saying ease the bar up a couple inches before becoming explosive in the movement

Thoughts on that article? I liked it. Everyone says "ass to grass ass to grass" but half the time they suck at it.

They're aren't a lot of people that area going to be able to do the true ATG without compromising the pelvic positioning. That being said, I'm by no means defending constant high squats, especially when they're raw.
 
Ya I thought it was a good article.

I do think there is a negative correlation between the amount of times a person brags about how their squats are ATG and their actual depth when they squat.

I also don't think lots of people are ready for full depth squats anyways either, as I am often horrified by some people's attempts at squatting when I first meet them. :o

I really need someone to call depth for me so I don't keep sinking if I don't have to. Still have trouble with bar positioning. Since my shoulders are actually mobile again, I keep bringing the grip further in which is just different now. Went from index on the rings to in between my ring and little finger. Critique?
 
Almost too wide for my taste. It's a personal opinion, but I like to see the shins directly over the ankles for knee health.

How do you like the shoes, BTW?
 
I like the depth you're getting. Leaves nothing to imagination. I personally would find stopping any shorter than that depth unnatural feeling with too much stress in my knees, but I understand you're reasoning in having someone call depth for you. I just prefer going with the ROM that feels more natural. Anyways, that is a wide stance, but watching how your hips, knees, ankles, and feet are lining up a traveling it doesn't appear that anything is out of whack. I didn't see any knee wiggle/buckle. Your upper body stayed really nice and tight. My only thought would be trying to apply a little more speed/explosiveness out of the hole, but that's a personal preference too.

Rodja, thanks, I agree. I was looking at the shin angle too. It's so much ****ing easier like that though so I just put it in the back of my head. Shoes are money for squats. Coulda gone a half size smaller though.
 
Dude, how wide you go blows my friggin mind!! I try that at 135 and I feel like I'm gonna break! Depth looked spot on though man, and if that's where you are comfortable, don't mess with it. It'll just cause you to overthink.
 
I am no where near an expert but it would seem with that angle u would be placing a lot of shear stress on the knee unnecessarily
 
From the last angle it looks like you could have cut it short and had a smoother attempt IMO, but the other ones didn't seem ridiculously deep, just a really solid depth which is questionable if you want to cut it short.

Also, my...borrowed thoughts, if you have the mobility to bring the hands in more comfortably and build an even bigger shelf on your back and get even tighter then by all means do so. Just make sure you are set centered is all.

And I like everyone else am super impressed with the width and depth. Freaking cray y'all
 
Dmax...I have no idea with the knees. I'm still externally rotated so it doesn't feel like a "cave in" Anyone?

I'd say that the width you have there is okay IF your ankles are good at eversion. If you can roll your ankles in well, then you'll still be safe out that wide. I know you like the springloading effect, but it's getting to the point where your femur length isn't keeping up with your hip mobility. You're pretty much hypermobile in the hips for the goal of grabbing up that 700lb squat. I get the springload action far narrower than that, and as long as I can hit depth without compromising my positioning, I don't try to gain anything else in terms of stance width, depth, or mobility.

Perhaps reeling mobility work back in to maintenance levels/keeping yourself feeling good is what would be best for you. You'll have to see.
 
I guess I don't see it as hypermobility issue because it's not the easiest thing in the world for me to get like that, though it might look it. My spring load effect I brought up is from the ease of spreading the floor at that width. Any narrower, I teater between torqueing my feet or spreading them so I just have to find what's right. That was my case with sumo. With that inward shin angle I could spread harder, but my torso wasn't upright. Only recently was I able to spread with a vertical shin.

I really can't do anything less mobility wise because I'm only working on what's tight. Since I've been going to the chiro, a lot of root issues have been cleared up. I don't even know where my foam roller is at lol (not because of Brian Carroll, I literally don't know where it's at). I just rely on the lacrosse ball. All I've done is what's in the log, or on off days only what's tight, typically adductors and glute med.

Good info on the ankles and femur. I'll read up on that. Thanks, man.
 
Is there anything you guys take or recommend to INCREASE appetite? I mean besides weed? ;)
 
Aside from food that you truelly LOVE? Anabeta does it for me.

Shît man right now I can hardly get through 2 slices of pizza. My appetite is in the tank. Hell I'm embarrassed at how little I'm eating as it's translating to garbage volume on assistance work.
 
2nd on that anabeta. OG version had me eating everything in sight.

Damn. I just ate a large pizza in under 5 minutes. Get your damn appetite back!

I'm on my 8th bottle of Anabeta I think. Always get hungry from it. CL has Black Hole but I haven't ever used it.

Have you tried adding in digestive enzymes and doing something similar to Dsade's purge protocol?

If you're natty, Mass FX Black sent my appetite thru the roof. Only non-hormonal supp to ever do that. If you're not, EQ & test if you pin & large amounts of 1 & 4dhea if you stick to orals. Boldione has been gone for years (oral non-toxic prohormone to EQ), & most methyl orals start to suppress hunger as they begin to strain the liver, so they can be tricky.

If it's just an issue of getting calories regardless, blending is your best friend. I guarantee you can drink 1,000 calories easier than you can eat them (& digest easier too). This hasn't been a problem for me in a long time tho, as I realized if I didn't learn to eat & like it I'd be forever small - now I find ways to try to stay more full lol
