Sean's Powerlifting Journey

The harness is gay.

It instantly makes you less of a man for using it.

I saw a big boy using it in the zercher position...with a cable squat harness on his lower half...it was pretty manly lol

Now calf implants are not cool

I'll give it a go. If not, then I'll try the harness. If that's gay, which I think it will be, I'll do/try Zerchers.

I dunno, I've seen a lot of fat guys with big totals use the harness! I wanna try the harness. Should add to my belly and my total. Hell, if it's the kind I'm used to seeing, I'd say you could do Zerchers with the harness, too. Or do fronts with the SSB and see if the padding helps.

Sean, I've had some legit shoulder pain in the past, but no probs with front squats. This may be one (ok, prob the only) lift I can help you with. Can u do light weight and post a vid so I can check out your shoulder and arm positioning? It may just need a tweek

At around 1:30 is 315 and up. I have some lighter sets following.

I'm not uncomfortable in the position. My AC joint is was all out of whack, so I was following the advice from the countless shoulder articles I read, and a few mentioned to avoid front squatting while rehabbing a bum AC.

I'm open to all advice.

I think leaving them out for a while is a smart thing. A month or two more w/ out them isn't gona kill you or hurt your massive squat that much...

Yeah you're right. That's why I had left them out recently as well. That's why I was looking at alternatives.

Alternatives:
Possibly be gay with a harness
Might be able to nix the gayness if I do it heavy enough?
Don't be a bitch and just front squat, you're fine
Zerchers..I'll probably kill myself instead
Just do something else

Country is right for sure, taking a break from fronts for a while won't kill ya, but I noticed a few minor things that may help. Keep the bar in your hands instead of back on your fingers. It will support the bar a little better and keep bar pressure off your shoulders. Also, shrug your shoulders a tad more and get the elbows a little higher. This will help keep ya straight and keep you from feeling the stress of the bar pulling you forward and down.
That's all I got, hope I sounded smart (for an AF guy of course!)

Sounded smarter than their 66th security forces, that's for sure!

I concur with holding off on front squats. I'll give it a go and see how it feels to test the waters, but I'll most likely stick with an alternative measure.

The hands..Dave mentioned before that my lats are most likely tight which is why my elbows drop...now I realize since you said it, that I let it go onto my fingers because of that. Woops.

Oh, and don't blame SF for their lack of brains...they share ASVAB requirements with the Army (aka, the ability to spell their names 7 out of 10 times)

well look at you smarty pants!!! I was somewhere in the 80's I believe...it was 15 years ago, anthrax killed my memory

Lol, nothing like a little anthrax to change your life.

Apparently I'm only smart on paper, considering I still enlisted airborne infantry instead of

A. Going to school and commissioning like my dad wanted

Or

B. Joining the Navy or AF and getting a job that applies to the civilian world like my dad wanted.

idk, prob like a 12....I never claim to be bright either
False.
I know. But it's a good battle for me because I got a 98 lol.
One thing I learned about the asvab is that the percentile score is not from everyone in history, it's a more recent timeframe. I think the percentile score is from the last 30 days that the battery was administered nationwide. A 98 today may be a 91 tomorrow (when referring to AFQT).
Line scores (more specifically GT) are more important as they are not dependent upon percentile and are static scores. Without a doubt though, a 98 AFQT is awesome.

My line scores were all pretty high, but I don't know what the cap is for those lol.

Mine were all >140 except for 1, and my GT IIRC was 142. Although, I don't know what the highest you can get is. And really, it doesn't matter as long as its above 110.

I didn't know the percentile changed so quickly either, I've heard that it's area based as well (your percentile in your area where the test was administered) is that true?

Anyone here use the Front Squat harness? Repetition Squat day tomorrow. I'd like to do some heavy Front Squat's after em but I don't want to risk the bar on my AC joint quite yet.

When I used to front squat often, I'd use the harness.

My wrists don't bend like that, they're not made for front squats.
I too have delicate rotator cuff / ac joint, so I like to minimize the pressure on it.

The harness was great, I think the most I ever used it was for 330~ granted I never maxed with fronts, didn't go too far below five or six reps.

You still have to keep your upper body tight, and I'd advise to set up just like a regular FS, just use the harness to keep the weight off that shoulder.

Thanks for the tips, Ace!

You scored higher than I did. My GT is 127.

I'm not sure if AFQT is area based but I would assume not, since there are glaring discrepancies in quality of education nationwide. I'm pretty sure a 98 in Mobile wouldn't be the equivalent of a 98 in Seattle (no offense intended to anyone from the south or the pnw).

That's still high though, I don't expect that you ever ran into many people that did better than that.

Steve seems to be ok with the harness...

I say try without the harness first and if there is any pain at all use it.

Sean, with the amount of weight you squat Zercher's would be an absolute bitch. The way the bar digs into your arms is the worst part.

Glad to you're pain free pressing brah.

Wear your knee sleeves on your elbows if you Zercher.

Cube-Week 2-Repetition Squat

Squat-Squat Bar, Comp Stance, Sleeves
145x10
235x8
325x8
415x3x8 + Belt

14" Cambered Bar Good Morning
250x10
250+40lb chain x10
250+80lb chain x8
250+120lb chain x8 + Belt

Unilateral Leg Press/Reverse Hypers
270x3x8/180x3x8

Vids of the GM's to come. I tried the harness. It felt very very akward. Front squatting with the squat bar sucks so I just skipped them. The competition squats were work enough.
