Sean's Powerlifting Journey

I may give those a shot. I plan on supplementing with pin press at chest level to get strength off the chest.

Ive always accepted being a poor presser. I'm determined to change that acceptance

Pin presses are a good one! They finished me in my last sesh. It's all about the mindset. Any obstacle can be overcome. It may never be your best movement, but you can always bring it up.
 
Its my best lift and it pisses me off cuz I want a damn 600 lb squat and dead.....

Dude I feel your pain. Can put up a little over 300 on bench (which isn't amazing, I know), but I'm only sitting around 400 for both squat and dead. So obviously bench is my strong suit even though I enjoy squat/dead 10x more. I don't even understand why I'm good at bench haha. I have lanky ass arms for my size

Haha. I know why for me. I was young and dumb and never once did deadz or squats for over 7-8 years. Been lifting since I was 16 and no one ever trained me. I had to learn errything myself. Made my way up to a 315 max on bench two years ago but only a 225 squat and maybe 300 dead. I've made much progress since then and hit around 500 on the other two and near 4 on bench. That and I went hormonal recently but am beginning to question its true effectiveness unless you're eating 6000 cals a day and just getting huge as fwark. Pretty sure its helped me push past certain plateaus more easily though

I don't really drink so this counts big time. I get VERY happy buzzed around 2-3 and won't go over 3 now or I feel like **** the next day

Totally agree ... hangovers started killing me basically when I turned 30... makes me feel old
 
So I should learn from you guys now while I stil can right? I agree hangovers suck I had around 20 drinks Friday night and I felt like garbage in the morning. Nothing a protein shake and poptarts didnt fix... Lol.

But really I don't drink much just because I feel like I don't want to do anything to hamper my Health or progress no matter how small.

Whoa now killer, slow your roll. Hahaha. JK. I drank like a fish until ~25-26. And I'm sure if I trained for a month I could be back at it again in no time. I think its more of a reflection based on maturity than anything else. When you got a house payment, credit cards, vehicles, hobbies, a wife and tons of other shyt you just don't have time like you once did to waste away the day, or night...

I made sufficient gains while I was drinking. Just don't get carried away too often. I mean its not like any of us are trying to be models or anything so don't fret too much

Just wait, by the time you turn 22, that will be enough to put you on the deck for a whole weekend. This coming from a 23 year old.
 
Do Epsom salts work? The 50 RDLs I did the other day wreaked havoc on my hamstrings. DOMS like a mother ****er

However, the tightness in my hips has magically disappeared.

**** yeah they work. I just bought 12lbs of the stuff the other day. Been using them for years. Heat up the tub, pour as much as can dissolve in there, and soak for a half hour.
 
Google for Epsom + rubbing alcohol. I used mint alcohol. Worked wonderfully when I got my ass kicked at mcmap instructor course
 
Make sure to re-hydrate after one of those baths.. MMA fighters use these when they need to make weight.. I can lose 2-4 lbs of water in a 30 min bath.

Yeah and when you add rubbing alcohol it gets even higher. The next morning you can literally feel your skin being tight as fwark. It sucks a shyt ton of the Subq water out but supposedly retains all muscular h2o

Thats a question I always was curious about.. The last time I took an epsom salt bath w/ wintergreen alcohol, I didn't have a lot of time to re-hydrate before my workout the next morning..I was squatting and sets that I usually can get 6-8 reps easy I had a hard time getting 3-4...Not saying its necessarily a dehydration issue, but since I've been doing the baths a little earlier on in the day and giving myself ample time to consume fluids, I haven't had that problem..Basically makes me question if it really does preserve the intramuscular h20

Edit: I tried to voodoo floss my knee with a miniband. It worked. Hurt like a bitch and I almost couldn't get it off. Buying a bike inner tube tomorrow

The HF stretch w/ your leg propped up on the couch is AWESOME!

I normally do it against the wall but I have wood floors at home so I just slide. But yeah, it feels incredible. The Olympic wall squat and the hip distraction from the side is amazing too

Are the hip distractions something you do regularly? My chiro has done this on me in the past...
 
No amount of foam rolling or lacrosse ball mashing could ever amount to what this 1 minute of voodoo flossing did. I could barely squat down to pick my kid up I was so sore. I really ****ing wish I did this yesterday.

It really is voodoo

I do these along with a bunch of other dynamic warmups stretches before squat and deadlift days.. Makes a difference IMO, along w/ a thorough stretching of the hip flexors.

Today's focus was screwing my feet into the ground and getting my knees out. I played around and found my groove to pull slack out as I descend, while screwing my feet in and shooting out. By the time I was in the bottom position, the bar and my glutes was loaded. Now I gotta work on getting my hips even closer. I can tell the difference in bar speed between reps where I was set better.
 
Yesterday when I would get up from lying down or sitting down I could barely walk because my lower back was all fckd up from my SLDLs@385 on Tuesday. So I took 2 IB800s, 3 beers and 2 Baclofen... Well lets just say I passed out hard last night an I'm fine today. My liver and
I are going to hell together!
 
Solid vids...I haven't had a barbell in my hands in nearly a month so I feel so out of touch with the powerlifts ATM. The 5x5 at that percentage appears to be giving you some solid form work (mentally and physically from how you've described it). :cool:

Thanks bud. My hands are raw right now. I'm in anti strap mode for absolutely everything.

The 5x5 is good. It's not terribly hard but hard enough. Video was 1st and 5th set btw.

Whwn can you lift heavy again? Start a log up when you do. I like following yours, good details.

Looks solid to me... I may give sumo a whirl myself after I stretch out the adductors thoroughly..Tight is an understatement to describe them.

I decided this month that I must have made a mental shift to thinking I am a powerlifter sometime recently. I've been doing high reps, bodybuilding like work, etc and nothing is satisfying my lifting urges. I tried to put a bar on my back and squat today and couldn't secure it and actually pull a deadlift, but it barely could hang in my one hand. :lol:

How do you get your hips as close to the bar as possible and still sit back and load the PC? This question has been bugging me.

Edit: just seen it's sumo not convo.
 
Just drink a lot of alcohol prior and there's your epson/alcohol combo. Lol
 
That last set looked sweet. Good setup. Good positioning. Nice n close. Great speed pushing the hips thru to lockout. First set looked hanky...

I got an idea for you. Coconut oil, empty roll of TP, saran wrap, and your hairy palm. Think about it...
