Sean's Powerlifting Journey

Lol you guys know my take on diet. Eat whole foods, I try to stay as unprocessed as possible; most of the time.

I quit counting calories when I couldn't gain weight and was stuck at 155-160. Now I eat a lot of whole foods and have carbs/gays/protein with every meal, 4-5 times a day, and keep track of the scale/mirror.

Gained 15 pounds since November and have stayed about as lean (or more so) while getting stronger and more muscular.

The exact same for me. Second I ditched counting calories and eating everything I can, I made serious gains in size. 160-225

Except now my goals have changed slightly. Eat for strength, slowly lose a few lbs. I need a bit more quality control now.

I agree with what you said, but...
Wait, wut,

Pls explain

Ok ok, but there is a difference between skinny and lean.

When I hear skinny I cringe and think of myself in eighth grade at 100 lb

No lean is still skinny. Everyone under 250 is skinny. :p

Fck dieting. Eat eat eat. Any and all foods. I stay away from dairy due to lactose intolerance. I never had a sweet tooth either so no candy, cake, etc. I'm not doing a physique show anytime soon so whatever. When trying to make weight I just up cardio for a few weeks

lol @ bench press's...who knows/who cares. anything over 300 and I don't die. It's a work in progress

Check out Becoming a Supple Leopard regarding mobility issues and squatting.

I feel ya, I hate it but I am determined to get stronger. I was gifted with huge pecs and tiny tris... FML. I will check that out now.

You're going to have to rename this to "skinny guys talk diet". Fu.kers.

Watch that word!!!

Woah Woah, he's just trying to make weight.

Easy on that "s" word, it's hurtful.

(skinny)

Same. 145-200, and then I cut back. Big mistake. Eat quality and big for strength now.

Ding ding ding. I just eat to be strong, and I lift to be strong. Not to look good. To be an animal.

I'm offended. The correct term is homosexual.

Just kidding. Call the homos what ya want. My neighbors dog is gay and keeps trying to bang mine. Any suggestions?

qdoba FTW

I like that carb cycle set up Sean...run with that for a while and if the changes aren't coming then swap some moderate days to low and roll that for a period. You just need consistency for a long enough period to gauge the effectiveness.

That Qdoba looks bomb as long as the bowl isn't eaten. Lol

Eh the bowl was eatin..22g fat, 45g carbs..

I figure this week high carbs on the ME days...high carb on the DE squats to have some planned heavier assistance work. I'll rotate around as needed I suposse since my work schedule is 2on/2off, it's hard to be consistent.

Lol I feel like I way out eat you guys in carbs yet I'm the "lean" one... the perks of being the young buck I guess.

That looked awesome.

All this lean and small talk is my specialty. ;)

Don't go too drastic at first but you should see some nice improvements even with just a modest CHO plan based on how hard you tend to work.

Thanks brother!

Awesome job, man! That's amazing depth, you definitely would have smoked that third squat if you had stopped anywhere before rock bottom! You're on track to more good gains. Great jumping off point there.

I don't think my form would be bad but my hands grind against my quads on the way up and makes lockout difficult

messed around with foot width and toe angle

I have my grip with a finger on the smooth when it comes to sumo. The wider and more external rotation you get, the easier it should be to break off the floor, and harder to balance at lockout.

I felt quick off the floor. I tried pushin out in my knees more to open things up. I'll try gripping a tad more narrow. vids later

Perhaps this is why I have a suck time off of the floor. You'll have to investigate when I post up my awful pulls.

I noticed that. Had my shins at the bar rings then had them just past and felt it quicker

I was worried about my external rotation not being able to keep up with my feet. I'm about to say f*ck it and get my feet out to the collars.

Sumo is man shyt, baby. Welcome, we're the good guys.

I feel like I'm having a baby or something when I tried Sumo before. Kinda curious if I can pull as much that way. I really like conventional and have no problems, and blow most people out of the water at my weight.

Maybe I will play with Sumo tomorrow. And I meant the dark side in a good way. Just a way I am not familiar with.

Be careful going too wide and losing some toes, I've seen a guy who dropped the bar and made ground beef with his toes.

Just play with the footing and the external rotation and see what feels comfortable and powerful.

How does your strength compare between the two lifts sean? about the same? Would you do more reps on conventional than you did on the sumo?

Definitely something to play around with.

no clue. the briefs helped more sumo tho. felt more of a pop then conv

I've got a buddy giving me the hard sell on DL in briefs to overload, much like the SlingShot.

He thinks I should throw em on to sq and DL every 3 weeks or so and really pile on the weight.

Lilly does so for squats. Give it a shot.

I fear the gear.

Much like a crackhead fears Nino Brown...I'm afraid I'll throw around some crazy (for me) weight and never go back to raw.

If I can find a cheap pair, though, I think I will.

Careful with it. I was briefing too often on my sumo pulls for the overload factor, and it killed my strength off of the floor. But, I got one rep with 425 raw and I got in maybe 12-15 reps at 455-475 with the briefs. There definitely is merit to briefing up if you're fine off of the floor.

I don't do overload work often. Hell, I've had my SlingShot for 2 months and used it twice on bench. Love it for dips though.

However I agree, if it becomes a routine, it'll bite me in the ass. If I go that route.

only have a few reps..camera kept falling over because I'm lifting on old wooden floors..at least you can see me almost bust my as$

xgels are makin the elbows and shoulders ache I think, no bueno

Ah I didn't know you had briefs on. I need to get into this gear stuff some day but I feel I have way more to learn first.

You added that much to your dl in briefs??

I didn't eat enough today before DL so I kinda felt low carb... It sucked so bad. I was tireddd. Your a man for cutting down I hate trying to lean on purpose at all. Stay strong.

no bueno on the xgels. I believe they're making my shoulders act up

Hopefully not...that would be rather unfortunate. :(

Feels like tendinitis in the elbows. Shoulders are hurting too. It all started around the time the X-Gels would have been through my system. I'm gonna give it a couple of days off the ArA and see if they get better.

I hope they're not the issue and I can't take them. Same time, I hope they're the issue because its an easy fix. Nomz, feel free to do some rep whatnot in here!!
