I was just wondering a couple days ago why I havent seen you on t-nation for a while (I'm registered there as Silencer and never posted much so i doubt you know me). I also never paid much attention to the forums there back when you posted there, but I did have a laugh at some of your "beat my captions". But anyway I was tihnking about you because I was curious to see what your diet is like. I'm vegitarian too.
So I just found this forum and saw you, rockscar, and wideguy here, thought maybe i should sign up.
Unlike you, though, I do tolerate dairy well and I do have a lot of milk and stuff.
anyway you say your nutrition is berardi-inspired. how'd you adapt that to a veggie lifestyle?
thanks,
Nuruddin.
(or is Zangi easier for you guys? not that either are my real name so it doesnt matter).
Rockscar said:NuggaZangi...whatever....good to see you here.
Mach .78 said:You can just start at the top, and most importantly, read the stickies regarding the "search function". I like to go to New Posts and see what has come up today. Kinda like the daily paper. If you have a question, chances are it has been asked before. So before you post it, search it. There is plenty of information here, some of which is actually useful.![]()

Proteinpowda said:You know about 8 weeks ago I started eating meat again after 12 years b/c I took my first academic nutrition course (beyond what Berardi, Lowery, and the like teach us) at college. I'm studying my butt off for the final right now actually.
The way I did it before? Pretty much lots of fruits and veggies and dried fruit, oatmeal, rice, etc. I didn't worry too much about combing fat and carbs (but you'll find that most bad foods are both high in fat and carbs like cinnamon rolls), just making sure I ate good stuff.
I just came off a bulking cycle where I was HORRIBLE at eating. I just ate whatever I wanted including junk food. I'm the heaviest I've ever been but luckily my waist is not the largest it has ever been. For the first time ever my arms are over 18". Wherever I go I get comments on my "hugeness. I'm not posting pics now b/c I have a Buddha belly.
NuruddinZangi said:haha cool, glad to know you're big. you look really different in the pics you posted when you first started the thread than the way you looked way back.. much bigger. like a completely different person really. so if you're even bigger now, that's awesome. except for the buddha belly.
so how did taking the nutrition courses convince you to start eating meat again? i say this because i kinda do think abotu going back to meat again (but not chicken. i would never ever ever touch chicken. or veal. and i never liked lamb even before i went veggie). basically if i ever do eat meat again it would be halal beef only. (i do eat fish rarely now).
i never eat junk and that stuff but still i can get fat easily from carbs, otherwise i can live on koshari (egyptians have this crazy dish that they have: rice, pasta, lentils and chilli).
well gotta go. thanks for the reply

I looked pretty pale at 157. My wife kept getting dizzy spells, vision problems. We thought she might be anemic, probably. I really think from my experience, that anyone who is an athlete should think seriously before they cut out certain animal protein sources. If you go the route of the Vegan/Vegetarian, get regular checkups via bloodwork and physicals. I have heard that Vegan bloodwork has come back looking pretty bad.
Before I hear it.
There are many athletes who have chosen the Veggie lifestyle with good results. There are quite a few Pro athletes in that group. You better believe they go to a doctor/nutritionist on a regular basis.
Save the animals. You are an animal. Save yourself first.
