Ive been using Sam-e 600-800mg daily for mood enhancement. I have been noticing good results without over agitation and anxiety. I have read from a couple sources that sam-e resensitizes dopamine receptors. This suggests upregulation of receptors. How can this be possible when sam-e is allowing for more dopamine to be synthesized which should lead to desensitization?
On another note I was curious why alcohol doesn't cause upregulation of dopamine receptors when it is classified as a NMDA antagonist. From what Ive read of alcoholics it does the opposite.
