This is sorta crazy, but out just in time before the election. They are "almost certain" that Russia moved out alot of the weapons in Iraq, and they moved them to Syria. Doesn't this make Russia an "Axis of Evil"?

I sure hope they're wrong on that one...Things could get very nasty. :run: I'd much rather have no WMD's than find out Russia moved them...now if it was France, we could just drop a MOAB on their ass :D

From Gertz:

The Russian arms-removal program was initiated after Yevgeny Primakov, the former Russian intelligence chief, could not convince Saddam to give in to U.S. and Western demands, this official said.

A small portion of Iraq's 650,000 tons to 1 million tons of conventional arms that were found after the war were looted after the U.S.-led invasion, Mr. Shaw said. Russia was Iraq's largest foreign supplier of weaponry, he said.

However, the most important and useful arms and explosives appear to have been separated and moved out as part of carefully designed program. "The organized effort was done in advance of the conflict," Mr. Shaw said.

The Russian forces were tasked with moving special arms out of the country.

Mr. Shaw said foreign intelligence officials believe the Russians worked with Saddam's Mukhabarat intelligence service to separate out special weapons, including high explosives and other arms and related technology, from standard conventional arms spread out in some 200 arms depots.

The Russian weapons were then sent out of the country to Syria, and possibly Lebanon in Russian trucks, Mr. Shaw said.

Its going to be in washtimes tomorrow....

aaaaaaawwwwwwwww ****!!!!! hahahahahah

heh... its like it almost was a trap for kerry...
prelim and unfinished report released monday
cbs wanted to release the info the day before the election
60min breaks it early incomplete

That's pretty scary especially it gives reports that there were WMD's but were smuggled out of Iraq into Syria more creditability. If that's true the question is where are the WMD's now.

It's all well and good to get paranoid about all this, does anyone honestly think Putin is secretly plotting to take down the US through Syrian and Lebanese surrogates? Russia and the US aren't likely to fall intoc onflict again for a long time. The danger here is that guy who ran against Putin and I believe against Yeltsin as well. I forgot his name, but he was buddy-buddy with Hussein, and was in fact the point of contact between Hussein and our administration before the first Gulf War. If he were in power, or if he has something to do with this, it's to be worried about.

i am not paranoid, **** happens. there are a million possibilities:
Saddam and Russia were quasi allies. Most of his weaponry was Russian(thats how russia makes a lot of its money). The inside discussions between them might indicated to Saddam that the US was absolutely going to invade. Russia doesn't want to be implicated, Saddam doesn't want justification for the war to be found

Saddam also believes (the idiot) that he will be able to hide and re-emerge in a post-invasion scenario (and he has money to reestablish himself). So he allows his pals to spirit off the truly bad stuff so he can regain his position, claim the US is a bully without threat of reinvasion.

I agree, I don't think this is anything to develop overly paranoid conspiracy theories about. If Hussein were in power, or the relations between the US and Russia were not what they are this may be given more thought, otherwise IMO it's just something else to generate news and buzz about right now.

i agree with jweave for once. no conspiracy. it is news worthy tho. just something to ponder. keep in the back of your mind for future events.

Even if russians were involved in that **** it has nothing to do with "official" Russia.

Believe me, I know what I'm talking about.;)

It is something that belongs in the news, I agree. I personally think the most newsworthy part of the whole story is who had the story, how and when they planned to break it to the public, and how little it seems to agree with reality.

You never know, it is the whole premise of 'The Final Phase' and 'The Perestroika Deseption'. I personally hope these nut aren't right, but sometimes you have to wonder. Putin/Russia were heavily involved with Saddam and the Oil-For-Food scandle, they are helping the mad mullahs in iran with their nuclear asperations. A regeme that has murdered 100's of millions of people one day decides to give up communism and is now our 'friend' smells a little fishy. Afgans beat the red army with the help of the Americans, if I were a russian I might be pulling for the US to suffer the same consecquences, payback is a bitch. Putin and some of his ministers blame the Beslan school masacre on the west. I hope I am just 'paranoid' ;)

No, no... I don't think Putin would do anything like this.

I just don't believe that their military, even under Mr. KGB Putin, is under control.

I don't think that the US and Russia will have any problems. I personally think that ties with Russia will eventually be stronger than the likes of France and Spain could ever be. I would say the same about Germany, but I think the conservative party will probably take over and there will be greater ties. But, Putin has expressed his favorability of Bush in regards to being the right person for terrorism, etc, so I don't think there willl be any real conflicts.

You're talking about the communist nut case who almost took the election, right? I believe he's Gennady Zyuganov. He's a real whack job and he does have loyal military support, or atleast did as far as I know.

grrr... anyone else get angry when trying to discuss this kind of stuff with hardheaded people?
i had a girl tell me i shouldnt believe everything i read in the paper since there's stuff the government doesnt tell us that we 'ought' to know... she was referring to this article; stating it was too conveniant that it was released close to election day...
i totally chewed her up and spit her out and I enjoyed it.... and i'm angry too...

i saw NOTHING of this on any of the news channels today... only a vid by some whack-job terrorists saying they are the ones who stole the weapons and that US intelligence officers were the ones that gave it to them... obviously a lie and a ploy to try and backup Mr Moore's "Fat Bastard" fantasyland he calls reality

Did anyone watch the press conference on CNN this morning? It was kind of a cluster f@$k. The pentagon spokes person and an Army Major really didn't stand a chance against the reporters. Then again the reporters (as always) were trying to twist **** up.

I didn't take it as a conspiracy theory that Russia was or is out to get us. I think it's more of a case of Russia trying to cover it's own ass. As Jeff pointed out they were involved in the oil for scandal as well. The were probably just trying to get rid of the evidence. The problem is the result of that is not good for us. I know we found France made missiles in Iraq as well supposedly with a 2002 date on them. I wonder why those countries didn't support us? Hopeful this will put the intellectual fad of what does Europe think to rest.
