Hi,
So i am new to the site and thanks for having me. I am 28 yo male about 6'4" and currently weigh 260lbs .

I recently was diagnosed by my doctor with low T less than 300ng/dl of free test . Well after doing some research i am a little concerned with my doctor. He prescribed me 100mg monthly injections of I'm assuming test cypionate . I wasn't told when i reported for my first injection which was 2 days ago. I also wasn't informed of the actual frequency of the injections. But the doc himself was not in the office and i wasn't going to make a big deal over it.

So my concerns are: he may have no clue what he's doing . I'm no expert and i may also be a little naive but monthly injections of only 100mg of cyp seems like I'm going to experience peaks and valleys . I may also experience sides from this as my understanding. I also was not put on any estrogen blockers or hcg to keep my balls intact.

I'm on here to find out if this is common practice and if i should be concerned. I also do not enjoy the idea of reporting ideally i read twice a week for injections is better. I'm willing to learn to do these on my own. To avoid all the office visits . How do I go about asking these things without offending him?

To avoid this being asked my goals are just to be healthy . I need to lose weight clearly. I really only carry fat on my abdomen. I'd like to have my sex life back which is the big symptom that made me go to a doc about this . I'd like to gain some mass but I'm not looking to be a monster . Once a month though seems pointless. I'll have to find out if it may be depo testosterone which i only read about briefly but requires less frequency.

Your doctor does not know what he is doing and should have sent you to a specialist. 100mg per week is the typical starting point for TRT and will adjust from there. Think of it this way- a test levels in a normal functioning body is around 5-8mg a day for men. Obviously exogenous test will be different than endogenous, but we are trying to get as close to optimal in the physiological range so 100mg equates fairly well in most cases, but everyone is different.

Unless this doctor is willing to send you to a specialist or if you have another avenue, do not start this protocol with this doctor- it will be a disaster.

Thanks for the quick reply. If you have time what exactly are the major risks with this protocol? I ask so i may have some points to discuss this with him. As far as specialist do you mean an Endocrinologist ?

I knew it sounded off . I feel like he just wrote the script to pacify me . Even though i have the labs and the symptoms that fit with the diagnosis.

Well the main risk is feeling like crap and making any symptoms you current have much worse than they currently are. At minimum, weekly injections need to be done and most of us are all doing a 2x a week with smaller doses as it is now recognized as a more optimal way to keep hormones balanced.

Thanks a ton. Im going to be discussing this with him . See what his reasoning was and most likely asking for a referral to someone more up to speed on the treatment i need. Does your doctor just write you a prescription and you go get the test and do your own injections? Does that happen with legit hrt ? I understand if you don't want to give any personal responses.

Oh, my journey is quite long and I've posted it on here several times in the past. Long story made very short- yes, I inject myself and I see my doctor every 3 months for lab work and new prescription.

First, you need to find out what type of testosterone your doctor is giving you. If it is indeed test C or E, than your doctor is clueless and you need to run away as soon as possible for your own safety and wellbeing. Also, what type of doctor are you seeing? Pcp, Endo ?

I confirmed its test cyp . Its just my family doctor . Im not positive but i think for insurance purposes i would have a referral to a specialist. Ideally I want to be able to give my own injections at home to protect my privacy. I don't want to explain to everyone why i need to report to my doctors office every month week whatever. When its easier to handle in my own home. Its frustrating that its such a struggle and i understand my struggle is just beginning. I don't know if they assume your a steroid user for body building purposes which (to each their own). Either way I feel like I'm being viewed as a junkie or something when i have a medical need. I'm just tired of feeling like I'm 60 (no offense) when I'm 28 . Thanks for the responses.

Just to chime in....everything Kisaj has said is spot on, as he always is. He's very knowledgable on the subject of TRT due to his personal research and experiences. Weekly injections are a MUST! Anything less frequent than that is setting you up for failure. Twice a week injections are ideal. There's so much other things involved with TRT besides injecting you with Test. There's more hormones than come into play. Get a referral to an endo. If that doesn't help go to a local pharmacy that does compounding and ask the pharmacist what Dr's in the area write the most scripts for Test. That will give you a starting point at finding a better dr. Most guys on TRT are prescribed a bottle of Test and they inject at home.
