Question about pinched lumbar spine nerve

Without going into detail in this post, I have a pinched L5 nerve at L5-S1 causing pins needles at foot and occasional calf pain due to a bulging disc. The chiropractor who was seeing me provided zero direction except quit working out altogether, that's it. Said no core workouts and also said that surgery may be the only way.

I then tried to have a second opinion but the orthopedic spinal specialist did a terrible job and wouldn't be specific about what I was to do. He thought I just wanted surgery or medicine or something. I left the appointment disappointed and honestly not sure what to do.

Right now, I have been doing core workouts regularly. What I can't seem to find a 100% answer to is if a bulging disc hitting a nerve will require surgery to fix or if core plus time can bring the bulge back in? I want to get a 3rd appointment for another opinion but there's the chance it may go the same way as the second.

Has anyone personally experienced this or known someone who has and can provide truth?

Where are you located at? I would try and find a center that deals specifically with spine/back injuries or a rehab chiro.

South Mississippi. My original doctor was a well known sports chiropractor here but apparently he doesn't know Jack about back injuries and was a waste.

I'm thinking about seeing a neurosurgeon but may try a pt too.

How close are you to Gulfport? Google Spinal and Neurological Surgery of South Mississippi. If that is too far, just google South Mississippi Spine. A few other options came up. Hattiesburg Clinic also has a spine center.
