Question about esters

If making a transdermal formula using a compound with an ester like cypionate or acetate will the ester just get stripped off or does it actually absorb and produce an effect depending on the ester?

Ester doesn't ever produce an effect. It keeps the compound inactive until enzymes can remove it from the compound, freeing it to bind with the androgen receptor.
Only thing you need to think about for transdermal application is the molecular weight.

That's what the ester will do. If it's too heavy, it'll hurt absorption.
