The further adventures of not taking Zepbound/Mounjaro...So I have been working on getting a colonoscopy (I'm 48). I spoke with the office that performs the colonoscopy and you have to be off Zepbound for two weeks, so I decided to get the colonoscopy prior to starting Zepbound. That'll be next Monday (8/26).

Zepbound observations, Day 1:

I took my first Zepbound injection just a bit over 24hrs ago.

Throughout the day yesterday I did notice a decrease of appetite. I'd estimate a 30-40% reduction in caloric intake. I had an almost giddy feeling at times. It really helped with completely avoiding evening snacking. No other effects were observed. I am planning to emphasize eating of protein to minimize muscle loss. I had a shredded beef (about 3 oz) taco on a keto tortilla with a slice of cheddar and a small amount of pistachios and half ounce of Lily's Keto Chocolate bar for lunch, then some grilled chicken and two falafel balls with cabbage for dinner.

Ok, so one week after starting Zepbound, I am down 3lbs (255 to 252). Praise God! I am only at a 2.5mg dosage (max is 10mg) so I wasn't sure I could expect any weight loss at all at this point.

Two weeks after starting Zepbound, I am down 8.5lbs overall (255 to 246.5), 5.5lbs from last week. God is good! I'm consciously focused on eating less and though it isn't easy, it is certainly easier (and more successful) than without the medication. I'm essentially leveraging the appetite suppressant effect of Zepbound to help me more strictly minimize carb intake, boosting the ketogenic aspect of my caloric intake.

Two weeks ago, I started at 255lbs, ~30% BF. Back in 2015, before I started ketogenic lifestyle, I was at 280lbs. Got down to ~220 (20% BF) over the course of 5 years but then COVID derailed my activity level. I stayed keto but wasn't as disciplined. I am hoping to leverage this opportunity to get to a much lower BF % than before. Even though I am attempting to focus on eating protein, I expect that I will lose muscle mass, but, God willing, I can regain that.

Yeah. my eating wasn't as disciplined this weekend as I wanted it to be. I was at 245 on Friday, same as today. Thank God I didn't gain any weight at least!

God is so good! I'm having fun bringing that 1 mile time down. I think I will start doing HIIT intervals again. I was in the 8 minute mile range doing that a few years back. I was thinking during the workout today that struggle is not only intrinsic (and intentional!), but is good! It's good to struggle with weights, with refining character, relationships, anything! Who wants an easy life? Not me. But I do want a contented life. And I think a good struggle is a component of contentedness.

The treadmill running is the exercise I am working on to reduce my mile time. I'm also going running tomorrow morning. My buddy runs 5 miles every Saturday doing a 4 minute run, 1 minute walk interval. We'll see how that goes. God willing, I will be able do all the intervals (and not just walking the rest of it after I am wiped out).

Went for a Saturday morning run. Plan was four minute run, one minute walk. I kept that up for 4 intervals then the run intervals got shorter.

33 minutes running (avg speed 4.9mph) 2.6 miles (avg HR 177, max HR 192)

Started the next level dose of Zepbound yesterday (went from 2.5mg to 5.0mg). I have a mildly sour stomach
and am burping gas that smells like yesterday's lunch.

Monday weigh-in: 240.5lbs. Doesn't appear that I lost any weight over the weekend, but thank God I didn't gain any.

The other pre workout supplement I was considering was Xwerks Ignite. I'll probably give that a try next time.

In spite of making no changes that I am aware of (sleep, caloric intake, or physical activity), my weight loss has plateaued. I'm still pushing onward, but it's puzzling. I'm also still struggling with low energy level. I did manage to run a full mile (and was my fastest yet), but it was grueling. I will focus this weekend on less caloric variation than I've done on previous weekends, see how that turns out.

I had a bad cold since Monday. That combined with being tired resulted in not working out the last three days.

I finished up my Gorilla Mode pre-workout powder and started Jacked Factory NitroSurge this morning. I did not like it at all. Made my heart rate jumpy/thumpy/thready/uneven. Won't be taking any more of it. I'm open to suggestions for a solid pre-workout supplement without any of the jerky heartrate effect. I just need something that's the energy equivalent of starting fluid.

Hmm, in looking at NitroSurge it's very basic. Only 180 mg of caffeine too, so it's a little surprising you had issues with it. Looking at Gorilla Mode it has 200 mg of caffeine, but more pump/volume type ingredients like glycerol, etc. So you're looking probably for a balanced daily driver - and low on the caffeine side. Not really my expertise, as I'm a higher stim type of guy.

But maybe look into just some non-stim pre's to drop the caffeine all together if you have issues? Maybe something like a Ghost Pump?

I'll take a look at Ghost Pump. I do wonder if there is something in the NitroSurge that isn't listed. Gorilla Mode has more caffeine than NitroSurge, so I don't think it's a caffeine issue (besides I am a diet Mountain Dew-alcoholic, so I know my way around high levels of caffeine). I agree, based on the listed ingredients, it doesn't appear to have anything in it that would cause the reaction I had (which is why I chose it).

I estimate that I am currently at about 24% BF (started at 31%). The lowest weight I have been in recent years was 218lbs in July, 2018. I am targeting to reach less than 200lbs by the end of December, God willing! Last time I weighed that was in the mid 90's, lol.

One of the things I am convinced of is the power Christ, but also of consistency. I thank God for learning the simple truth of not giving up and of using the power of minutes/hours/days to accomplish what cannot happen overnight. This is true for weight loss, strength increase, character refinement, and spiritual growth/wisdom. All we can do is commit ourselves to a course of action, and simply stay the course. Sometimes we just think too much. We think it isn't working or it isn't generating the results we think it should. Stop thinking, and just keep doing.
