Prison jacked

So been watchin tube vids of american guys training in public looking seriously jacked, just random dudes this guy walks up to and starts asking about their training. Turns out alot of them are ex prisoners who just did a lot of pull-ups, dips and push ups. Is this for real, can one achieve that look with just these basics with minimal access to additional weight? Or are they just secret pinners? Their physiques look too good, some of them have balding grey hair and look better than 90% of guys I know in their 20s who lift with weights and have access to serious gym equipment and high quality food including me.

The eat train, rest, no access to alcohol or overeating for the most part. Plus having been in a high testosterone state always on the ready to fight etc probably has something to do with it….

It kinda flies in the face of conventional lifting wisdom tho doesn't it. Being constantly stressed out surely that's a recipe for high cortisol and we know cortisol loves to make people look like a block of butter. My mate is in the Royal marines, big fella, he says alot of pt exercises are like what these ex cons do and all their fitness tests are pushups, pull-ups and alot of running. He said no one gets big doing that, apparently they all hit the gym weights for that.

I think the body may make adjustments in prison, to counteract the cortisol spikes etc. I don’t know for certain… I did have a good friend who did 5 years and came out pretty jacked, very thick and rounded muscle bellies, not very hard or cut though. He got out and within a year reverted back to his normal physique

Cheers dblock

Unless you're in federal prison or just super helpless, jail is probably less stressful than the average person's life lol. You don't have to go to work, you get fed three times a day, you get activity times and exercise time and a little job to earn money for your commissary. Baby momma or your x can't stress you out.

You basically get to do the same thing every single day, and something that no one on the outside can say...... They never miss a workout and they never miss a meal even with subpar training and subpar nutrition the power of consistency.

Now what you don't want to do is something foolish and try to copy that when you have access to good food and good gym equipment. What you do want to copy is the never missing workouts and the never missing meals...

That thick rounded prison look is a a high sodium diet and high reps. It's like a inflated balloon. You can tell the difference between those guys and the guys who been doing a lot of calisthenics and trade the cupcakes for cans of tuna

Cheers for the info, yeah consistency is one word that seems to crop up alot amongst the big guys I know, that and time. My workouts are consistent, meal timings could be better but I've gone from eating once a day to four times a day so I'm making progress, though it's so much hassle trying to find time to eat healthily. Green organic bananas have become my best convenient carb source, kefir milk and boiled eggs for protein. Life was so much simpler when I was eating junk washed down with a soda.

Good point, gymnasts do use weights just not in the way we would though. And these ex cons didn't say whether or not they did creative calisthenics, just the basic movements, lots of dips, pushups and pull-ups. A more pressing point is why couldn't you have picked a fit female gymnast instead of this guy with the dodgy wiener, for guys who didn't notice you have now and it will give you nightmares, lol.

lol cause rings is a mens event and I have seen many examples of untrained gymnasts whoop ass on barbells when they give them a try. I don't remember the legit numbers but I think one gymnast converted to PL and took a record in a light weight class within a year, I just read that Mitchell Hooper (1,047lb deadlift) started as a gymnast. you can do pushups, but then you can elevate your feet to eventually doing like handstand pushups and get chest, delts, tri, everything worked. ring dips are far harder than regular dips because of the stability etc. You can get pretty ripped this way, I'm sure you could build an entire prison themed program

I've googled it there are a few programmes, tubers and books. Some are free others are paid, interesting ain't it.

Buddy of mine went to prison for 12 years and got jacked. Put on 50lbs. He spent all his canteen money on canned sardines and tuna. He had nothing else to do but find God, workout and eat as much as he could.

What was his workout programme?

yeah older I get the more I realize there are many ways to skin a cat. but the biggest difference I find between the totally jacked, and the moderately strong is effort.

My buddy the other day was laughing and goes "its crazy how much harder you have to work than me to be only moderately stronger". But the details he's leaving out is I'm 43, he's 36, I'm 190s, he's like 260lbs. so yeah I work real hard, out strength him, but with 70 less lbs and 7 less years of youth to work with ;)

He got his hands on the Arnold encyclopedia of bodybuilding and went to town
damn dude thats a great way to get started!
I usually send complete newbies the Mark Rippetoe Starting Strength but if bro has the ability to sit down and dig into the Arnold then he's on the right track imo

I read an article on how prisoners use the food and surroundings to build a training system. I was amazed at how the build strength with such little nutrition.
