Pre workout and anxiety

Hi so about a month ago I took Stimul8 pump preworkout, I usually don't need preworkout but that day I decided to try it. Later that night I got a horrible panic attack while driving. I felt like I couldn't breath I started hyperventilating and I couldn't move my hands and feet. Fortunalty i managed to pullover and my brother called an ambulance. The doctor told me that it was a panic attack and that I had stimulant induced anxiety. This last month I haven't been able to workout because I feel like I can't breath. My question is that is there anyway possible to counter act the stimulants from the pre workout? And will it help stop my anxiety?

I would say that the stims were too strong for you and I would take a break from the pre workout. Secondly in order to counter act your workout anxiety I would start slow and work my way up for example start on the bike work up a sweat (5-10min at moderate pace enough to make you have to make an effort while having to talk) I would also start with a good smount of warm up sets to make you feel comfortable then if you feel it go for the working sets. If you don't do the same till you feel you're mentally comfortable in doing your working sets.

I have suffered anxiety in the past. Fortunately I have cut out what I believe was causing it. Last summer I was supplementing green tea extract daily and I had terrible anxiety all summer. While I was taking green tea extract I was given a sample of stimul8 and that night my anxiety was the worst it has ever been. Same symptoms as you. I believe stimul8 has green tea extract in it also so the double dosage really took a toll on me.

I would recommend cutting out all stims and slowly reintroduce them back into your daily routine. I know that same feeling of feeling like you can't breathe while working out. When that was happening to me I had to slowly work my way into my workout. I hope any of this helps.

I would suggest starting out with a very low dose of pre-workout, one that doesn't include yohimbe in the ingredients list because that seems to cause anxiety in many people including myself. If you're still having the same issues with anxiety I would recommend seeing a doctor. I took up to 40mg citalopram for anxiety in the past and it completely went away.

I'm actually taking 20mg of Citalopram a day for the anxiety but it supposedly takes up to 4 weeks for it to start working.

Yeah, it takes a while but it definitely helps. You could also look into stimulant free pre-workout, all the pump and energy without the anxiety. ?

A similar thing happened to me a year or so ago taking the same homemade pre workout I've been using on and off for years. Frightened the hell outta me.

Felt breathless, rapid heartbeat and got the shakes real bad. Couldn't even hold my cup of tea.

Took about 3 months to get back to normal. Episodes would come on for no reason.

I just stopped taking everything and now just have a strong coffee before a workout. Occasionally I'll use 1-2 g of LCLT and 1-2g of Taurine which gives me a great pump and it's a third or more less than I used to use.

I'm no expert but I reckon my central nervous system just said enough is enough so I listened. I've been tempted to try it again but in actual fact I'm training really good without it. Volume and intensity have dropped a bit but I'm getting a great pump and I don't feel as overtrained as I did while using stims. And I sleep much better.

I have had plenty of those attacks from stim products. I used to take all kinds of stuff back in the late 90s and early 2000s, then my tolerance went to crap.

Using a quality non stim preworkout helps a lot. I use VasoMax which still gives me good focus and provides a ton of pump. The glycerol and potassium nitrate combo gives me really deep full pump.

On days I'm super tired, I will still use stims, however I will start with a lower dose, and take my time drinking it. Example if I use HyperMax XT, I will do half scoop and sip it for a while. That helps me from getting that hard hit right off the bat.

I would avoid high stimulant products. It could have been your dosing as well. Perhaps the pre workout you had contained yohimbine. If I have a pre workout that contains yohimbine, on an empty stomach, I get very anxious. If not fasted, it is not nearly as bad. I would go with a simple cup of coffee pre workout and add a non stim product such as VasoMax or High Volume. You will get a touch of caffeine, plus the ingredients for a great pump. If you are not a coffee drinker, like me, go with a tablet of caffeine. You can find tabs that are 100 or 200 mg. If you also cut them in half to get half the amount. That way, you are just getting caffeine and not DMAA, EJ, yohimbine, or any other of these heavy stimulants.

Sounds like some PTSD from what you experienced in the car and how it is linked to working out / the pre-workout. And I am sure like everyone else - you have your own stressors. I see you have cut out stims, good for you. Take it slow re-introducing yourself to exercise - so you will gain trust in your breathing and overall function. You got this....and I understand. Please keep us posted on your progress. As another mentioned KSM66 (ashwagandha) helps reduce anxiety. I like to stack it with a B Complex 100, 500mcg B5 and Licorice Root (this is a wicked natural anxiety stack). PM me for more info on dosing.

I'm not sure if it's already been mentioned but 200 mg of L Theanine (I prefer suntheanine) taken with your pre workout should take the edge off. I used to love studying and doing work around the house with a good pre workout and suntheanine. It allows you to focus while feeling alert and ready to conquer the world.

Stimul8 ain't no joke - that ish gave me the heebie jeebies, and I'm kind of a stim junkie. Half the dose.

I tried it once..that was it...way too many stims

Do you remember how long you had to take the citalopram? Or how long you had the anxiety symptoms?
I took it for about 3 weeks before noticing any anxiety relief. Try 5htp, it works fairly quick in dealing with anxiety at least for me.

I am a little confused. Are you trying to gradually work stims into your system to be able to tolerate them on a regular basis?

If so, there is little point in doing this when you can buy several great options for stim-free PWOs, and/or Ergonine could be good for you.

If you really want to work a stim PWO in to your supplement routine. Quake 10.0 would be a great option for you as it has a very simple yet effective stimulant blend that includes l-theanine which should be perfect for you. Start with 1/2 scoop or so...

As others have said, Stimul8 is one of the most potent stim PWOs out there. This is not a good one to start off with :sad3:

No man I'm trying to get rid of anxiety caused by me taking Stimul8 pump preworkout. I usually don't take preworkout.

So you took one dose a month ago and have had lingering side effects of increased anxiety?

I don't doubt that it caused you some acute anxiety on that day, but it has nothing to do with the anxiety you are still experiencing..

On the other hand, starting an SSRI can increase your anxiety in the beginning and/or it is not the right one for you..

Idk man because I took the pre workout on a Monday night at about 8 and then that same night at 11 I had a horrible panic attack and since then I've had anxiety. I've never suffered from anxiety or depression before. And it's also weird because I don't have the typical anxiety phsycolocigal symptoms I just have the physical symptoms.

Yeah, I don't find it that odd that you had a panic attack that night. Even though it was a few hrs after your dose. Some Yohimbe extracts can be tricky and cause anxiety a few hours post dose for sure..

Sounds like you had this Stimul8 experience and stated Celexa at about the same time...one month ago.

I am just sayin that at this point, it is far more likely that the Celexa is increasing your anxiety and causing your symptoms.

So did you have the Stimul8 panic attack event and then your PCP started you on Celexa right then and there?

Well first they gave me Lorazepan and then celexa.

So you said you were having anxiety for 7 weeks, which was before you even had the Stimul8 panic attack. You have to realize that Stimul8 had no impact on your ongoing symptoms.

It is often not so easy as just a "serotonin imbalance" and one SSRI may increase anxiety for you while another might actually do the trick. Going through the process of finding the right med can cause anxiety in itself! I am willing to bet the Lorazepam did you some favors though. If you don't have more of that, I would ask for some to use when you have bad moments until you sort some of this out. These bad moments without any relief can be major setbacks.

As far as why this started 7 weeks ago out of nowhere...only you can answer that. It is not always a tangible obvious reason though. The mind is very complex..:dunno:

In the old days, we did not take stims before we worked out. It is possible to have a stellar - if not better workout without stims. If stims don't agree, don't ****ing take them. Listen to your mind and body.

Take some kratom with your preworkout. You wont have any anxiety.

No I didn't have any symptoms before. It was only after my panic attack that the symptoms started. That was after I took stimul8.

If you do have an anxiety disorder avoid stims. It's not work exacerbating your condition. Keep lifting and doing cardio to alleviate the symptoms. Try to get at least 7 hours of sleep. Sleep deprivation can lead to anxiety. Phenibut XT at 2 grams knocks me out. Don't do it too often though. Good luck!

Isn't this the label?
I don't see any stimulants. Are we talking about the same product here?

He must have taken Stimul8. Not the pumped edition.
I initially thought he was mis-referencing the the highly stimmed Stimul8 by calling it Stimul8 Pumped, as it didn't make any sense...

Then he said above that it was indeed caffeine free so there we go..

Bottom line, OP has a developing anxiety issue that has nothing to do with this product. This much we know..

Ask your doc if you can get Baclofen.
It works like Phenibut but safer and you can take it every day.
