Possible move to NY - where to go?

So here's my situation:
I work on the Upper East Side in the high 60's and my friend is working in Long Island. Both of us have come to the conclusion that this commute blows and we need to move. Recently, another friend of mine graduated and working in Rockefellar plaza in the upper east side.

I'm looking for a 2bed apartment to convert to 3 bed. Rent around 2500/mo. Im thinking either Brooklyn, Astoria, Upper East Side, or Midtown.

Does anyone have some insight to if Im crazy thinking this or if its actually possible? If so, any suggestions on neighborhoods? I think Brooklyn would be cool but I know nothing about it.

Hey I live in bushwick. I love it. For the price you are looking, I'd suggest Brooklyn. Astoria is too quiet and family oriented. If you just wanna get a chill spot I'd say williamsburg.

Any 2 bedroom in the city is pretty pricey. Especially one that's not the size of a closet. Add utilities and other fees and it adds up. The only places in the city that will fit would most likely be intended for college students and I don't know if thats your style.

Yeah I want something with my age group, ya know. I figured manhattan would buy me a closet space but im lookin anyway should I get lucky. Ill llook into Williamsburg - is bushwick an option?

I live in Astoria and love it. I recommend looking into it. It's way cheaper than most areas in Brooklyn.

Astoria is very possible. Close commute for everyone.

Commuting back and forth from NJ and paying double taxes is too. Pick your poison.

I don't know, maybe find a job in a different state. You could save a lot of money living someplace the cost of living isn't so high. Living in New York sure would be nice, but the only thing I could afford is a card board box. Not one of those cheap ones either, a fancy New-York-Style cardboard box!.

I work for the worlds best cancer hospital and really enjoy this job. I put 2-3 years here and I have a resume worth its weight in gold. Im not leaving. Thats why I threw out the idea of living in Manhattan... its not impossible, but not easy.

In the future im lookin to buy but ill wait till the market crashes just that little bit more - we still havent hit the bottem.

Cool. I guess you've been blessed. Happy apartment hunting!.

Hey I'm back.

question. for 2.5k why not just get a 3 bedroom instead of trying to convert?

Bushwick is too cheap for you bro. It's ghettoish lol.

Thats our aim - 3 bed, 2500/mo. We may even find a house if the price plus utilities is right.

Im starting to look around in Astoria and Long Island City. Commute for all would be waaay easier. Although someone mentioned forest hill(?) is a good option.

meat packing district gets my vote. although $2500 may not get you much there other than a parking spot lol. its my favorite area to go to in the city and i could eat at The Homestead steak house every day of the week
