Popup / adware hell

I'm losing my mind with all this fucking spyware, adware, and popup **** on my box. I've dicked around in the registry, run ad-aware and spy sweeper multiple times (in safe mode as well) and this **** will STILL not go away. Anyone know a better sweeper with more updated definitions or something else I could try?

Thanks
WYD

Got to stay off those porn sites bro!:)

Just kidding - try backing up your system and re-installing windows. Its a pain in the ass - but should definately get rid of the problem.

AdAware is one of the best programs of that type I know of...

Note - I don't want to reformat.... I recognize this to be the surest option to remove the crap from my box, but a pain in the ass to do.

OOOR, you could try a non windows os...such as bsd or linux. :) Those seem to solve my adaware problems.

Found the little ****.... I had to check my startup items under MSCONFIG.... little fucker was the source for everything...and my dumb ass granted it access through my firewall when it asked for permission because I thought it was something normal. hehehe..

okay this is a porn site but a cool one that will help you try to get rid of that little bitch WYD

lavasoft adaware is the best I have seen. (heavens know that I have tried). I still have one someware that I haven't been able to find. Glad you found yours. Kazaza is big culpret on my computer. (and they wounder why I use the "lite" verson.) I will never, never buy or help promote anything sold by the adware.

True, or run a mac. even the virus writers will not support a mac :D

Only frickin problem I'm having with linux these days is not being able to use digichat. Has anyone found a distro that's compatible, or a workaround?

go to Sun's site, I am sure they have something.

Spybot & Popup Cop

Use Spybot and Popup cop. I like Popup cop because it also stops pop under ads.

if you download the google tool bar, which is cool all by itself, that blocks pop up effectively as well

my favorite is pop up killer because it has a smart engine to disable pop ups it hasn't even seen and is also free, you should merge the updated blacklist file with it and then set the slider for how aggressive you want it, the best part is you can customize it to close a popup and when you re-visit that site, it will NEVER pop up again!

download and instructions for use:

Google Toolbar RULES. Seriously I think this should be a must for everyone, it's great.

And no, I don't work for google or anything.

the google toolbar is evil that tracks anything and everthing you could ever imagine on your computer....there's an thread here somewhere about adware and the google toolbar I'll try and dig up

My favorite toolbar is the new toolbar that Draven made for Gaining-Mass. It includes a pop-up blocker, a built-in google search, a built-in pubmed search, and a whole host of other nifty features.

Spybot Search and Destroy

Instead of using Adaware which is OK use Spybot Search & Destroy. It's free and it's been known to find twice as much spyware on your PC. Like I said you don't have to pay for it but please make a $5.00 donation to the guy that created it if you download. He updates it very often and I just think it's cool that he makes it free to everyone.
