Piston Honda's Purus Platoon War Journal: Muscle Marinade

Get well soon brotha

Had our housewarming party last night so no workout. Got back in the gym though today and did a lot of chest/back/shoulder work. Lots of stuff I usually do in PT and a few other things as well.

Pull-up/BoSu push-ups :20,16,13
Flying push-ups: 15,13,12
Medicine ball arm raises: lateral and 45 degrees x 10 each x 2
External shoulder rotations: 10 x 2 @ 20lbs
Mid-rows: 265 x 15, 13, 10

Bit of an off week so far. PT Monday and today; parent conferences tomorrow. Upset I can't work out as much as I'd like this week, but I'm still dedicated to it and to this log. Sorry updates re: training haven't been as steady as I myself would like them to be at the moment; life is in the way right now!

Leg day:

Jefferson lifts: 205 x6/5/5/4
Stiff leg deadlifts: 205 x 6/8/8/6/5
Twisting forward/ back barbell lunges
95 x 5,4,3
Ground base squat:
180/5, 270/5, 320/3, 270/5

Got back in the game today after a very busy week. Hard to feel the right foot position for the base squats and felt a slight twinge in my back so I cut them short. Felt good to get back on that horse!

MM treating me good as always; 11:45 now and no crash feeling after working out 7 hours ago.

Forerunner Labs Alpha Kits should be arriving tomorrow and that will be my next product run, although probably not a log. Maybe just a final review after my run.

So before I go into the workout log for today, some background. I'm getting ready to hit the gym but first I want to see if my fiancée is awake from sleeping after her overnight shift. She was, and when I saw her in bed, I had to take her. 20 minutes later, my baby batter is all over her and I have to hit the gym.

With that in mind,

Chest day:
Hammer bench press dropsets:
360x8, 270x6
320x6, 270x3
270x6
Hex bar shrugs:
195x10,9,8,7,7
Roc-it lat pulldowns:
250x12,11,9,7, 180x8
Farmers walks: 2 gym lengths @ 65 pounds x 2
BoSu push-ups: 25,15

Even after having my juices drained preworkout, I was still able to drive through my chest/back/lat workout. Thank you Muscle Marinade!

Just testifyin' bro

Piston my deepest apologies for not being around much man....

No worries my man! Things were pretty crazy for me earlier this week too, so just getting back into the swing of things myself!

Gonna go tear up my legs now!

Mountain climbers:
30x 3 sets

Lunges pushing a 25 pound plate from chest outward: 8,7,6

Standing squats w a 45 lb plate overhead:
15x3

Muscle Marinade is still kickin'! Still as effective as the first dose was. Lots of good energy and endurance, plus no crash!

Hit some weight and rep PRs today. 40 minute workout and was fried at the end of it, but it was worth it!

Ground base squats:
270/3, 320/6, 360/4, 360//4, 320/6, 270/5
Stiff-Legged deadlifts:
225/8,8,7,6
Jeffersons:
225 x 5/4, 4/4, 4/4 (1st # is left foot forward, 2nd # is right foot forward)

Thank you sir!

That's cause your stuff works!

PT was fun today, what with the DOMS in my traps and upper back from the deadlifts yesterday. Good news is my therapist is noticing a lot less scar tissue and fibrial (sp?) damage since I began my treatments about 6 weeks ago.

Did chest/back/lats/shoulders today. Good news from last PT session was that my appointment next week may be my last one because of the progress I've made rehabbing my shoulders. The PT has taken the place of an upper body workout 1-2 times a week since I started this log, and obviously i wont take a PWO before my PT, otherwise I'd be done with my MM by now and you'd have a final review. As it stands I think I have 4-5 more servings left.

Did my pull-ups/BoSu push-ups, same reps as last week.
Trap bar shrugs: 195/12,11,10,9,8
Bent over dumbbell rows: 60/10,9,8
Farmers walks: 60 x 2 lengths/2 (gym had no 65s)
Lat pulldowns: 195 x 12,11,10,8, 180 x 8

--major pump in my biceps today. Kept form tight on the pulldowns and def worked the lats, but the biceps really blew up anyway.
--btw: in my second week of AlphaMass/AlphaBulk and am up about 3-4 pounds from day one. Not too shabby!

Andro Bulk aye..

You get anything out of those farmer walks?

Whole body workout. Just wish my grip were stronger. Keeping good posture and controlling, not swinging the weights, works my shoulders, biceps, chest, back, lats, even calves for some odd reason. Sucking in major wind after a couple trips! It's usually a "finisher" for my workout and depletes any energy I have left at the end of a workout.

Key is to grip the weight in the palms without your thumb wrapping around the handle. Small detail like that affects your posture and shoulders.

Edited the above: AlphaMass and Alpha Bulk by Forerunner Labs. My spell check had the other products' names!

Did deadlifts today. Straight-up deadlifts, no ground base squat deadlifts or anything. All I can say is:

Never again.

I have no grip strength, so I feel my legs could have handled more weight than I was able to hold on to. Plus, I don't know if its harder to do when you're 6' tall, but taking the barbell from the ground with an overhand grip just seemed like a longer range of motion which opens up so many risks. My lower back had more of a pump than anything, and that was after following correct form and everything.

I know I will get flamed for this post, but straight deads are not for me. I'll go back to the gym and hit the machines and bars that help me isolate my hamstrings rather than go traditional and spend 10 minutes stretching out my lower back after a set.

Very disappointing day for me.

Upper body day:

Pull-ups/BoSu superset
20/30, 16/25, 13/20
Roc-it shoulder press
120/8, 110/6, 100/7,6
Roc-it mid row dropsets:
260/15, 205/8, 13,7, 9,6 --bad bicep pumps
Hammer bench:
320/12,6 270/6
Roc-it lats 200/15,12,9

Shoulders took a beating today. Went for smooth controlled movements and a bit of a pump, hence less weight in some exercises

DTP Leg session:

Leg press (horizontal):
250 x30
300 x 25
350 x 20
400 x 15
450 x 12
400 x 15
350 x 20
300 x 25
250 x 30

Worked out at my school's gym; maxed out their machine. Definitely got some good pumps, but I know if I was at my normal gym I could have pushed more weight.

Still an awesome workout!!

Did chest / upper body today. A bit lower weight, a bit slower on the reps, got a great pump and felt awesome!

15 pull-ups/ BoSu push-ups x 3 60 sec rest (shorter than usual)

Lat pulldowns 195x12,11,10,8

Seated bench press 225x15, 13, 11, 8

Hex bar shrugs 205 x 12,11,10,10,9

Smith machine pull-ups balancing my feet on a Swiss ball: 15, 13, 12

Shoulders were jacked, chest was swollen, big V shape in the torso and crazy veins in my biceps. Was weird to see the hemline in my shirt because they matched up to the veins in my biceps! Freaked me out a bit.

One last workout and the log will be complete. PT tomorrow though; possibly last session.

Final day: legs

Hit PRs with my stiff legged deadlifts today.
225/10,9,8,8,7

Did 5 reps of Jefferson lifts at 225 for 2 sets.

7th/8th grade wrestlers came into the school gym and I took some time to walk them through some exercises and lifts that would help them, as well as some functional exercises for core and lower body explosiveness they'll need for matches.

Would have done more actual lifting but it felt good to help the kids out! (I coached modified wrestling for a few years)

Final review/ summary will come later. All in all, Muscle Marinade is a great PWO product!
