Pissed about my recent test level

Just turned 41. About 6 yrs ago I tested my testosterone levels due to not feeling manly enough and it was very low normal - about 320ish. Not low enough for my urologist at the time to recommend anything. That started me on my workout and more manly way of living. 5x a week workouts. Constant research. Knowing what to eat/not eat. Being a part of this forum. I really transformed myself.

I have a case lately of severe low libido and either ED/performance anxiety. Decided to get my test levels checked. New Dr openly suggested test as a solution if my test levels came back low.

Test levels came back: total test 483. Half glass full i was super happy to have increased my testosterone through my lifestyle and workouts at an age where I would expect it to be going down. But realistically not sure what my next step can be since it’s more on the normal range - I haven’t followed up with the Dr yet but I’m pretty sure test will be out of the question. That having been said if if I got low libido, erection difficulty and more tired than usual these days that sounds like low test symptoms to me and regardless of what my actual level is symptoms are symptoms.

What would you suggest next steps to be? Do Dr’s still prescribe test for normalish ranges or maybe do they have other alternatives or will the Dr not help?

Are you tired and sore all the time? You’re 41 years old and going to the gym 5 times a week. That’s some dedication and something to be proud of but if you’re really busting your a$$ with the weights then maybe you’re not recovering enough. Overtraining can cause all kinds of health problems including ED and anxiety. So maybe consider reducing it to 3 or 4 days a week. I’m 26 and I wouldn’t go to the gym 5 days a week consistently. I do every once in a while but my body takes time to recover and it’s healthier for me to workout 3 or 4 days a week. I also get plenty of exercise at my job though. Anyway, overtraining is one possibility. Stress is another.

And not working out at all will cause low test but working out too hard and too much will also cause low test. You need to make sure you’re getting the perfect mix of physical stress on the body and recovery. Sleep is very important. But maybe you are recovering just fine and something else is going on.

Did he also go over the other numbers with you? Estrogen, Prolactin, etc...?

I’d get tested again, but first I’d not work out for 2 months, go on a vodka bender, and get very little sleep for 2 weeks. That will drop your test levels enough to get on trt for sure.

I'm at approx 490 and that is with try of 200mg cyp weekly. So I'm thinking you won't get trt. Try and get your prolactin tested if mine is high I always have low libido

You're taking 200mg test a week and only at test levels 490?

Are you doing it yourself, or is it from a Dr?

It's from my dr. I shoot 100mg 2x a week so that may be why. Last test was taken before my weekly shot. Next test we are going to take 48hrs after injection to see what I peak at. I'd prefer to be around 750. I purposely took the shot several days after my last shot because my last two tests I got high readings and I didn't want dr to lower dosage below 200

Weird. I never got any alerts from email this thread was getting comments. Thanks for the feedback.

When I say I work out 5x a week it’s not like 1 hour of working out. It’s during my lunch break at work and I start it off with jogging outdoors for about 12 minutes (rain or shine, hot or cold) so with dressing/undressing and shower I only get about 35 minutes. I hit it as hard as I can for those 35 minutes. Then get back to work.

My Dr didn’t test for estrogen. Maybe I have high prolactin as someone suggested? I guess I can research increasing prolactin.

Really wanted trt as I feel an extra 200 dose of test can put me in a real healthy range for my age.
