Pectus Excavatum...can steroids solve my problem?

Hi everyone this is my first post here on the forums and yes I'm 21 to quickly answer that question. I have a condition that is known as Pectus Excavatum...i tried searching for it in your forums but they didn't return any results which was kind of disappointing b/c i thought at least 1 person has to have this on the forums but maybe people are too shy to talk about it.
( i had a link to show you an example but i need more than 20 posts to be able to do that) damn it) So either copy and paste this w w w.pediatricsurgeons. c o m/pectus (sorry i had to trick the thread) to see wht it looks like and to find out more i guess just wikipedia it or google it. My chest is not as bad as the persons in the picture but still noticeable.
So my question is what do you guys think about the use of steroids with helping put on mass in the chest area? I know steroids aren't the "magic pill" and a lot of research and hard work goes into a successful cycle. I just want to know what everyones thoughts are and if it would be possible for it to work without getting the surgery since that option is no longer possible for me. If I bulk up in anyway nothing goes to my chest area at all I swear b/c i was fat a year ago and my chest was completely flat only my gut was big and b/c of the condition my stomach stuck out further due to PE.
It's extremely hard to get mass in my chest area b/c of the way the fibers are placed b/c of my how my ribcage developed b/c of this condition. At least thats my philosophy as to why i can't get mass there.
So I was thinking that steroids would be able to hit my chest area good and hard. What are your thoughts and please be as informative and helpful as possible. This condition really sucks and I don't need to get flammed for asking a question. Now I'm not considering doing steroids in like a week, month or few months, I'm just doing some research as to what bodybuilders and steroid users think about this issue and if they think it could be quite beneficial to fight this condition or at least make the appearance of it better.
Also, since the bulking doesn't seem to work are there any steroids that come to mind that get you lean or keep you lean while putting on some decent mass and muscle? I'd like to research the names that you guys think of. It seems with this condition that you have to stay lean in order to not make it so noticeable b/c with weight the gut sticks out a lot.
Oh and if any of you know anyone that has this condition or you have it yourself please let me know how yours or their chest development is and what routines your or they are doing to better the chest area. If you guys have any questions for me please feel free to ask. Thanks again.

yikes dude, i can see where youre coming from.

honestly, look at the pictures on that website i would just go with the surgery. the before and after pics are pretty amazing in that one.

It appears the the condition is bone related, not muscle related. if you were to gain mass in that area i think it would look the same...just with bigger pecs. it might even make your sternum looks even more concave since larger chest muscle will protrude more.

mines not as bad as the pictures and the surgery is already out of the question b/c i went for tests and the doctors said mine wasn't a health issue so they said i didnt need the surgery. It doesn't matter though I'm going to continue to work out and develop my chest and so far there has been decent results and it looks better than a year ago but still not where i want it to be and i can only conclude that if my chest were to get bigger it would look even better. Thats why i want to know what people think if I were to use steroids to help with this situation.

Have you tried just plain working with heavy weight first?

Do bunches of flies etc. etc., and if, in 3 or 4 years of natural growth you think you have improved the asthetics of your appearance then consider steriods.

i understand no one here is going to flat out say yeah man you should def. take steroids. My question is in all of your opinions would the use of steroids help with this condition? If you say yes im not going to go out and start doing them this second I just want to know what everyone thinks about this situation so when it comes time i'll have more information about it instead of waiting a few years and coming back here and asking the same damn thing. Does anyone think it would be beneficial to someday use them to help fill out my chest? and obviously other parts of my body but thats a given with use. If you think it would be beneficial what kinds and types would you recommend based on this condition and the fact that it's best for me to stay lean. Thank you to everyone who responded and who responds in the future.

If you find that increasing your muscularity naturally helps, but you have hit a platue for natural growth, and feel that more growth will further improve asthetics of your condition then consider it.

I just don't want you thinking that using steriods by themselves will fix your condition.

Steriods are a tool in increasing muscle mass, diet and exercise can not be overemphasized in achieving what you want.

Steriods don't work without solid diet, and a solid exercise routine.

i stated that in my first post. I know it takes a lot for a successful cycle and that steroids are some kind of magic. I know I have a lot more work to do. So should I just stop considering it until I'm actually ready? And then when I tell you guys I am I have to actually prove it to you with stats and what not. I just want to know will it help and what are some of the types that will keep me lean but increase some size and muscle? so i can do further research and prepare myself for when the time comes.

There is a "psychosocial" aspect to your condition as well that many surgeons will correct the condition for. Get a second opinion.

I'm not sure, however, that if your condition is very minimal it will be effecting our chest training too much. It may just be a genetic weakness muscularly. I find that generally focusing on time under tension and having a good strong arch in your back while you perform exercises helps the most with chest growth.

So, drop some weight and lift slower (maybe 1-2 seconds up, and 2-3 seconds down). And, don't forget to arch your back and "pinch" your shoulder blades together while you do the chest exercises--it makes a big differences in hitting those pecs.

Oh, and if it helps you (like it does me) make your first set the big "ego" set where you lift heavy and sloppy. After you get your ego out of the way, then lift correct :D

LMAO!

Fatsuperman hit it pretty good. Lift naturally as long as you can, until you've hit plateaus you can't get past. Then if you feel that even better chest development will improve how you look, then hit the gas. I'm sure you'll do your research.

Good luck man.

I would be careful with how i work my chest with your condition, especially avoid dips and decline as you may not want to overexert pressure on your sternum, oin heavy is a relative term when liftin with correct posture, scapular retraction, feet grounded, liftin with an upward curve in stead of straiht up and down will put your body in a protected position where you will not get hurt as this will ensure back and glute support. find as heavy of a weight that you can maintian this posture and forcefully contract your chest when accelaratin and comin down, you may be able to use more weight with a bad posture
but you will reret it years down the line.

not sayin this will help your apperance just don't want to see ya
ettin hurt years down the line

have to disaree with a bad form all out set(it only takes one,for injury) An alternative to this is to preform one set of a heavy compound ex, like a squat or a leg press with perfect form, as this will provide the same neurological/hormonal benefits without the risk of injury

I know this is an ancient post, but after a recent bout of hating my body again I came across it. slowwnsteady - you're probably on your second cycle by now at least. I just wanted to give you some advice coming from somebody with the same stupid deformity.

Get the surgery if you can!!! Otherwise consider pec implants. Im 29 now and wish I would've done something about it when I was younger. Here is a letter I just sent to somebody specializing in the implants (I think I'm too old now to have my chest broken)

"I would like more information about having pec implants done. I live in the Austin, TX area. I was born with pectus excavatum and have struggled with it my whole life. I'm 29 years old now. I used to just hide under baggy clothes when I was younger. I have even tried steroids to build up the muscles. Even at 210 pounds of mostly muscle my chest was still disproportionate and smaller than the rest of my body. I am considering the implants as well as the more serious surgeries to correct this. I just don't think I will ever be happy with my body any other way. Please send me some more information."

Even at 210 ripped my chest still looked stupid. If i could go back in time I would have it fixed. Believe it or not it bothers me more now than it ever did. If you cant get the major recronstructive surgery then look into some of the doctors who do the implants. I am.

If either surgery is out of the question for you than I can only tell you this - no amount of juice and/or chest exercises will fix your problem. Everything will grow the same leaving you a ripped beast with a hole in your chest.

Focus on shoulders and traps. Buy a lot of tank tops to show off your good points and hide that chest at the same time.

I wish you the best of luck. email me if you want to talk about it bretdonovan at hot mail dot com

Hello, i just made an account just to reply here.

I have the opposite problem, where my chest is pointing out "Pectus Carinatum".
Now im 18 years old and have been bodybuilding about 3 years (1,5 years effectively). Now i weight about 101kg and am about 197cm high.
I saw that bodybuilding has helped my chest a lot. now i wear tight "slim fit" t-shirts around even tough i still have pectus carinatum.
But the chest still is bothering me. I was thinking, will more bodybuilding help my chest? and/or will steroids do some work? i have used a lot of supplements (not roids) and feel that it has helped me a lot.

I saw today something like a brace for my chest and i was thinking maby that will help, but i am 18 now and maby its too late.

There are soo little people with pectus carinatum and soo many with pectus excavatum..

But thanks, i would like a reply. I hope the best for all those guys out there with chest "problems".
