Partial squats

Anyone else do them? I get told I'm squatting wrong Hahaha or people being baffled by the ridiculous amounts of weight I use(according to them). But I feel they have really help progress my back squat rather quickly.

Yesterday I did 13 sets of doubles @725 and am very pleased with that.

It really depends if you use them as an accessory or a primary. How long is your usual Bb Back Squat? If there's a 250lb difference then I would probably scratch my head at you as well. Do you squat competitively? Joint issues? Partials look easier but Ive always thought the were hard on the tendons around the kneecap. 13 sets of doubles? and at 725lbs what else did ya do?

At the end of the day to each their own, if your comfortable doing them and your not getting terrible pain then shoot do what makes ya happy.

I don't do them on a regular basis and my normal ROM is just past parallel, but not quite oly deep. If I am working up to a heavier squat, I will incorporate partials at that weight to get used to unracking and the feel. For instance, I am using my normal squat depth at 495 for reps, but I am trying to move up, so I have been doing partials for 515 until I can feel ok going into the hole as I don't want to get stuck. haha

Ever use walkouts? I feel partial squats and walkouts really help but I havent programmed them enough to say they "aid" my performance. I dont think id know for another year.

I haven't and I really should. I've found that after moving up to the weight that I am doing partials for, even if it is 20-30lbs more, once I unload that little extra weight, the reps weight feels much easier. I imagine if I were to incorporate walkouts, that it could speed up progress.

Next leg day I am going to work it in and go up 15-20% for the walkout to see how it helps.

Thanks for bringing up something I had learned and long forgotten in my years. This could be helpful!

The rest of that day was deads @ 585 10 triples and bench 5x5 @ 275.

I squat in some variation everyday plus a push and a pull @70-95 percent of my 1rm. I don't compete though other than against myself.

The partials @ 725 are quite a bit heavier than my back squat I when I back squat I do 3 to 5 reps though I haven't really tried to hit a 1rm so my guess is maybe 100 difference.

Ok, damn ya sound like a hoss lol. How the heck do ya train the big three all in one day lol

Seriously I'd eat 2 chickens afterwards

Haha it was rough initially but after a few months of training in that manner I won't say it's easy but it doesn't kill me. I recover very quickly. I'm good after a nights sleep usually. I eat quite a bit after a day of those 3.

Hamstring dominant squatters will usually not have issues doing this. However a quad dominant squatter (chronic tight quads) will likely have knee pain from it.

As long as you're initiating the HIP and not just moving the knees, and don't feel any pain, there's nothing wrong with it.

It's still somewhat an ego lift though, and you could consider alternating between half squats and deep squats. If you can't deep squat, work on hamstring and ankle mobility.
