Who incorporates weird oddball lifts. I currently do like a clean and slam with a heavy bag. Think about ripping someone up off the floor, picking them up to your shoulder height and slamming them back into the ground. I use it as conditioning work for boxing and grappling but it's also just a great power building exercise. I also use to do 1 arm barbell snatches, thinking about getting back to these as I found them good for explosive strength and there just impressive looking. Last week I did some suite case carries. These will get worked in too.
Anyone got some ideas I can incorporate. I've got a tire so I can do flips and wood chippers with a sledge too.

Basically just looking for ideas to keep things fun. If it helps I'm currently training for a bench press competition on October 15th at the 198lb weight class (202lbs currently) not ripped but not fat either
IMG_20220903_073105715~2.jpg

after that I gotta drop hypertrophy work and focus on conditioning while I try to cut all the way down to 178 (yes I know it's a rediculous cut in 4-5 weeks where I'm hoping to fight end of November.

So basically I want some oddball strength and conditioning stuff to keep myself interested and have some fun in the process. Stuff to do outside my main training

Here's a sample workout I have planned for Tuesday this week

Flat bench working up to 315 for sets of 3
Tire flips- 4 sets
1 arm barbell snatch
Short break
Heavy bag for 4 rounds
Short break
Weighted chins with 75lbs for 4 setsof 4
Deadlifts working up to 365x3

None of these are to failure, all exercise will have about 2-3 reps in reserve

Currently my last known maxes are
353 bench
508 deadlift with straps and 435 without (weak hands from injury and fighting over the years)
Weighted chins I got 1 rep with 100lbs the other day, probably could have done 2

I’m trying to figure out what’s going on there. It says 2000 pound car, but I’m pretty sure that’s a Ford Edge. Stock, that would be over 4000 pounds. Also, it’s up in the air and the wheels look bottomed out. Super weird. Maybe they gutted it and welded it back together to hit 2000 pounds.

Probably doesn't have a motor in it

Zercher carry is a good one you don’t see too often. If you’re flexible enough you can grab the bar from the floor with your “arm hooks” but I deadlift it to my knees, squat down while I place the bar on my knees and arm hook it from there, squat up and walk with it as long as I can. It’s a hard one, especially when it gets heavy.

DB clean & jerk

I’ve only done 135 on a rubber gym db, and 137 on a fat handle loadable circus db, but it’s also not something I really trained more than a handful of times. It’s kind of scary, but rewarding when you lock it out.

Also, this stuff isn’t how you produce your best benchpress in 5 weeks at comp

I already do these, I swapped them out for a single arm barbell because I only have access up to a 90lb. I did 100lb on a full size barbell 1 handed the other day.

And yes I know lol. Honestly, my training is completely bare bones minimum lately. Been benching 2x week following up the bench with weighted chins, a dumbbell or barbell snatch, maybe a couple hang cleans but not much. None is near failure. Just keeping things fun. Oh and I did arms on Sunday.

Boxing has been pretty much non existent outside of doing 15-20min on the heavy bag for cardio like 3x week.

So basically I'm doing a full body on Saturday with a focus on bench, arms on Sunday, heavy bag Monday, full body Wednesday, heavy bag Thursday and Friday.

Two full body workouts mainly upper body, the arms day and a couple heavy bag sessions for cardio. It's probably the least amount of working out I've done in the last 3 years but honestly I'm progressing very well doing it at least from a strength standpoint and my body composition seems to be staying the same or even slightly improving over the past few weeks so I can't complain.

On the days I don't lift I've been coming home from work and eating a pot brownie and going to bed 2 hours earlier than normal even though I don't sleep good through the night I think it's been helping as you know how terrible my sleep is.

I think I’ve read somewhere that although weed does help people fall asleep, the quality of that sleep isn’t as good as compared to without. Might be something to look into

I saw a "sleep expert" or whatever on Joe Rogan podcast say that it can mess with the sleep patterns. Mainly decreasing deep sleep IIRC. But take it for what ever it's worth. If it does help someone fall asleep and stay asleep, then there would probably be a tipping point where the benefits outweight the disadvantages. For me it doesn't help, probably does the opposite. I'm a horrible sleeper aswell.

I know all about it. My quality of sleep is never been good I've been learning about sleep for over 15 years and nothing works for me, I've even been to a specialist and had sleep studies done. My body says **** you were waking up. My job only allows me to have about a 6 to 8 hour window we're sleeping is even possible but most days I have about a 5 to 6 hour window. Once I fall asleep I wake up several times during the course of the night.

If I eat an edible I can go to bed a little bit earlier and I wake up less often. If sleep quality is negatively effected by weed then the extra hour or two outweighs the quality for me. Not to mention I'm balls to the wall. 10 hr a day labor job amongst the training which is normally 10x week between lifting and boxing.

Taking a edible and settling down on my couch at 6pm to watch TV and relax is probably one of the most beneficial things I have going for myself right now. The ability to relax lol

Have you tried cortisol lowering products, like b-aet or 11-KT? I feel like I slept a bit better on 11-oxo and 11-KT.

What about Phenibut or Benzos, for occasional use?

Phenibut didn't help, I don't know a ton about benzos but I don't even wanna try to learn about them because I want no part of them. I got a lot of friends who had problems with benzos, and Idk if ADHD meds are benzos but I didn't like how they made me feel when I was a kid.

I don't intentionally **** with cortisol either unless it's necessary . But I have used 11 oxo. Didn't do anything for sleep

I'm in the same boat. Haven't sleep well in 6 to 8 years. Are you on TRT by chance?

Ok. No, benzos are not ADHD meds, but I do understand not wanting to mess with them. I have a script to use for my sleep issues, but I allow myself to use them once a week max and usually use less often. They do knock me out though. Although the waking up and not being able to fall asleep again is the bigger problem for me aswell.

Yes, but I've only been on trt for 3 years, I had sleep issues for over 15-20 years. Going on trt did not affect it at all. I also don't sleep any differently on a full-blown cycle not that I really do full-blown cycles but you get what I'm saying

Wonder if you would get anything out of ashwagandha. Doesn’t crush cortisol, just regulate it into a more balanced range. Ever tried it?

I have found it useful on blasts where the gear was making me overly edgy. Haven’t used it in a long time but it did help smooth me out and relax easier when it was time to, and focus better when it was time to work.

Yes, I tried ksm66 or whatever it's called. I don't recall it helping but that's also not the reason I was using it so maybe I could try it again and pay a little better attention to that.

Ksm66 isn't the best type for sleep; Sensoril would better apply for this, but it never really helped my sleep.

Like a waiters walk?

That's something I have to do a lot at work. Imagine you got a 50lb barbell that's 10 feet long. I hold that overhead with 1 arm and walk about 20-40 feet. I probably repeat that 10-20 times a day. I always tell myself I'm doing a workout, not working LOL

That’s the same thing I tell myself whenever I’m doing some hard labor

As a former crossfitter, competitor, and box owner... we did it all.
For conditioning Devils Press will smoke you. gets heavy fast. I loved ring muscle ups, but not sure of any "real" value lol.
But really the only things I still cling too... I like to add power snatch to bench days for shoulder and back work, and cleans to squat/dead days for additional leg/back work and explosiveness.

If I still had the right gym for it. wallballs smoked me and blew up my legs. I used to have to rip my knee sleeves off as fast as I could when I was done. I find "Grace" (30 clean and jerks at 135lbs for time) and things like that used to blow up my quads like crazy (the push jerk).
