Tbh I went from an extremely hard gainer to now in my late 20s really having to watch what I eat otherwise flab appears so happily all over my thighs, glutes and midsection.
I honestly find it fun and fullfilling, eating with a purpose, having to eat "clean" and healthy foods as I am now finally able to bulk on those same foods on gear), whereas in my late teens and early 20s I had to force food down to gain anything (naturally), those dirty bulks were no fun, and definitely didnt feel healthy, but with a physical job it was the only way to gain anything.
Now, the main difference between being on gear and not being on gear, is that without gear on x amount calories, I maintain say 100kg. If I increase calories, i only gain fat. But with gear in picture, i can continue to take x amount of calories and my weight will steadily start to increase and I will start to lose bodyfat. And i ll end up at say 107kg at ~2% bodyfat less.
So for me at least, i always found that gear makes me need less food to maintain certain bodyweight, which is actually in line with what anabolics were designed to do, but I find it curious that a lot of people dont seem to get that effect and actually need to eat more on anabolics (to maintain given weight) as they rev up their metabolism.
All I can offer is pick the food that you tolerate the most and increase meal frequency. For me thats chicken and rice (with some peas, even better). Nothing bulks me like that combo.
