No facial hair

I'm amazed that I'm going to ask this and risk being belittled to all hell, but what would cause a 21 year old guy (22 in December) to not have facial hair? Granted, I'm not exactly complaining (who enjoys shaving every morning?), but I've just been wondering for a while.
For a better understanding of myself: both I and my brother (he's 33) hit puberty late. Since "the change" I've been relatively hairless (no chest hair, no back hair, barely any arm or leg hair, and obviously no facial hair save for a pseudo-mustache) but have never had any kind of gyno (but I do hold a lot of water). What makes this more confusing is that I have no trouble whatsoever adding muscle and strength (I've been told I have a gymnast's body - 6' 2", broad shoulders and narrow waist) and acne still comes and goes. I'm very easy going, but when I get pissed off I get VERY pissed off. My dad is moderately hairy everywhere but no back hair, and we both have deep voices.
It just seems like a hormonal thing going on, and I was wondering if anybody knows what the deal is. Could it be that I'll always be this way? I wouldn't mind not having to ever shave, and I can definitely live without chest or back hair :p

Im the same way- people always tell me I look young. Im 6'2" as well, long arms and legs. I developed lots of hair "down there" and had a deep voice at a very young age, but I still have yet to get significant chest hair or facial hair (I only have to shave like once every 3 days). I also get acne every once and a while. Id say its dht related?

some men never get a lot of facial hair, but some also get it later on, 21-22 is still young so i wouldn't be to worried (if you are at all) about not getting facial hair right now. i cant really offer and medical reasons to it since i have no idea about bady and hair growth and such. did your father have the same problem? and how about your mothers father? that could answer your problem if they ever had the same thing.

i envy the no chest hair part though, lucky. i dont get a lot of hair on my chest, i think my body focusses its effort on growing hair on my ass.

Dunno but if you find out then there is one supplement I'd buy! Man, anything that would get rid of damn shaving sounds pretty promising to me!

HahahahA!. Your just not "manly" enough!. Don't worry though, one day you will grow hair all over your body and you can run naked through the forest like tarzan!. I'm sure my ape friends will let you into the group as one of their own...

Tarzan wasn't hairy.

Are there any polynesian, american indian or asian relatives in your background? They can have normal testosterone and dht levels yet have relatively small amounts of body hair. I read that (don't flame, just writing from memory!) this is because of the lower amount of dht receptors on their skin. If someone else has read this please clarify for me.

My half-brother is far more muscular and naturally lean than I am. I'm sure his natural testosterone levels are higher than mine... however he cannot grow much facial or body hair at all due to his father's heritage (American Indian). I am a hairy bastard and I can grow a full beard (half Italian). The wonders of genetics, my friend.

I have the same problem. I'm a mutt: part American Indian, part English/Scottish.

I have normal amounts of body hair, but at this age I still can't grow a normal looking beard to save my life.

I could get by with shaving once a week until a few years ago. The older I get, the hairier I get everywhere. At this rate I might have "normal" levels of facial hair when I'm 50.

Hm..interesting how many times American Indian is mentioned here. My great, great grandmother (maybe just great grandmother I think) was full blooded Native American and my dad has some N.A. on his side as well. I want to say I'm part Irish and part N.A. (like three different tribes of Indian). How 'bout that.

It's all genetics dude. Don't let it bother you though. It's nice at times to grow facial hair, but other times it suck having to shave all the time. Also, body hair can be bothersome as well. Especially when you get older and hair begins to grow in places you wouldn't think possible.

It's actually a good question man....doesn't meant that you're not manly enough...so, I'll chime in...

I'm almost 100% Italian...and you know how hairy us mofos get. well, Back when I was 21- 22, I started getting more facial hair in, but still couldn't grow a beard...and didn't want to. During this time, I was also very lean and muscular...so I natturally didn';t have any problems with T levels. At the same time, I had absolutley ZERO body hair..cept on my legs and VERY minimal on my arms. My skin was smoother than a baby;s ass...the girls used to always comment on it and how they wish they had my skin...lmao.

So, shooting forward another year or so, I ran my first TEST cycle. HOLY CRAP, lemme tell you...that **** made a man outa me overnight...lol. Now, I'm the complete opposite (and I know it's from the test) I got this THICK ass facial hair....and I gotta shave (I **** you not) 2 times a day if I'm gonna be out late that night. It's horrible...I've also started growing more body hair now, and am totally hating that as well....so now, I have to also shave my upper body like twice/month now.

So, if you want the extra hair/thickness, go with some test....but I really think you'll regret it..lol.

I shave once every 2-3 days also, so we're in the same boat. 6 months ago it was every 4 days, and a year ago it was once a week.

I am Irish and German, and I am pretty much Hairless... only need to shave like once every other week, i dont mind it :)

I got screwed!!!!! I have to shave every day. Plus, I have en extremely hairy chest (think 70's porno hairy) and hair on my upper back. Oddly enough, my arms aren't that hairy, go figure.

I guess I'm one of the lucky ones. I do have a bit of American Indian in my bloodline, so I guess I got the gene that gives me very little body and facial hair. But then again, my hair grows back so fast that even if my facial hair doesn't grow all that much, I still have to shave once every 3-4 days.

Yes, us mutts with native american backgrounds get away with being hairless.. :D

I've had a mustache since I was 8yrs old, no joke.. That was about the only facial hair I was ablr to grow until I turned 30 this past June.. Since then, I got some nice shrubery on the chin, even bleached it Superstar Billy Graham style.. Got a blonde patch in the middle.. ;)

There was a good thread over at Avant a long time ago about this. It has so do with the local alpha-reductase activity in skin, and the resulting non-systemic effects of DHT. This makes it possible to have normal or even high levels of T without local androgenic DHT effects. I also have about as much facial hair as Leonardo DiCrappio.

Wait til you're older... you'll not have hair where you want it and you'll start getting hair where it shouldn't be.

It'll migrate south from the top of your head down to your...I'll stop there. :D

Im full Italian, and I really couldnt start growing full facial hair till i was 25. I do need to shave everyday to keep a clean mug, but thankfully my job doesnt require it so I only shave 2-3 times a week. I do get pretty scruffy though.

The other kicker is I have pretty sensitive skin, so if I do shave everyday my skin feels really raw, especially in the winter.

I'm Irish and German too....have to shave everyday. It gets kinda annoying.

Forgot to mention that I'm a hairy beast. Ever seen a 13 year old with back hair? Yep that was me. In fact my nickname in 8th grade wrestling was "Ape Legs."

I go through a weed-wacker every summer for body hair maintence damn it!!

All these Native American descendants here...you guys ever heard Dane Cook do his bit about aliens invading the United States?
He's talking about how America is always throwing its weight around, kind of bossing others around. He said, "What if these aliens invaded the United States and out of these huge crafts come thousands of 100 foot Native American Indians? We'd be screwed."
