New Grip On Bench

I recently switched grips on the bench from ring finger on the ring to middle finger on the ring. I'm 6'1" with long arms and a wider grip feels a lot better, not to mention I can put up more weight like this.

Has my grip been too narrow this whole time? I feel like I'm taking triceps out a little by going wider, but I don't care as long as I can improve my bench.

What are your opinions on good grips for the bench?

yah i am 6'6 and had my middle on the ring for 6 years until last week. moved to pointer just outside ring... felt pretty good. Actually felt better on the shoulders and a lot more anatomical

just both grips in your training. i have been training for powerlifting and for training i usually go narrow. once a month for max effort i will do 1 narrow attempt, one wider, and one as wide as i can go in a meet.

haha! Im 6' and just recently (well like 6 weeks ago) did the same EXACT thing. from ring on the ring to middle on the ring and i feel 10x better doing it. I USED to go whole grip outside the ring a long time ago but I think that was too wide.

I'm 5"10 so unfortunately I don't share the pain.

ps. I hate all of you who are 6'+ lol

But seriously, I feel like the closer your grip is(To an extent), the less likely you are to injure something while benching. Shoulder damage, tendonitis and pec tears are becoming more common and a narrower grip normally relieves some of the stress from those areas.

I have my ring finger also on the outer ring. I'm 5'10" with a 6'3" reach so finding a groove has been a pain, literally.

Same height but you have 6 inches on my reach. lol

Edit: Apparently I suck at subtracting and have to double check myself.

if your arms are that long you should end up at pointer finger on the ring, which is max grip in powerlifting- each time you bring your hands out you shorten your bench stroke
