i really only had one thought today: this is the first day of getting ready for worlds, now i just gotta come up w the money. i'm trying this online fundraising thing, not sure if it'll do anything. it's a site where people can help athletes get to where they want to go in their sport. i didn't see a whole hell of a lot of people having success, but i gotta try. i'm open for fundraising suggestions. rodja's buddy alex is going, he told me to try car washes in speedos. i think the only thing that'll get me tossed in the clink.

the oblique pull isn't going to be a problem i don't think, a little twinge but not bad. i took friday off to give it a little break. the set felt good, assistance was good. oh yeah, i asked my gym to kick in some cash as well, i've only been training there for 10 yrs...
 
Worlds!! Get it!!

Yep, 5/3/1 for PL will have my squat at 414, I have no idea right now what I'll DL, and I should be able to bench 235-240. I should be between 1030 and 1050 for a total.

Thoughts

Today I felt if I I'm going to worlds, I better assess where I'm at w the flat bench. Verdict: about where I thought. I'm pretty confident I can get to 240-245 w a little work. Not much, but it is what it is: I suck and my shoulders hate me. The bench is what really holds me back, my stupid fcking shoulders physically can't keep up w my pecs and triceps.

Oh well...

Slingshot? I'm assuming you mean shoulder integrity and not shoulder strength. Or, I guess shoulder integrity holding back shoulder strength.

It's integrity, the muscle is there but as a unit, not so much.

My bench was at its peak when I was like 34-35 - I did 295 at about 175. There's been 3 surgeries since then and it just gets worse each time...

Yeah, I'd bet you'd LOVE the slingshot or the ram. Might help you get your bench a little past where you expect it for this meet! Definitely for longevity purposes too.

Overload and technique. Check out Mark Bell talking about it. I think the generic term for them is a bench strap. Each company has their own version. It's not at the same level as a shirt, but it helps the shoulders a crap load.

Fck dude, I think I'd be embarrassed with one of those and my weak ass bench. 50 bucks though, I could always go in and bench in the morning when nobody's there...

The SlingShots aren't as...bright colored. It takes me about 225 to touch my chest so it'd be good for some ME work. I don't know how different sizes are with chest touching. Maybe other people can chime in. I like it for bench, incline, close grip, floor press, dips ect

There's a guy at the gym I occasionally frequent that will not do any pressing motion without his Ram. He does inclines, dips, flat bench, all with it. He said his shoulders are loose and all shot to hell and it's the only reason he can press at all. Another guy in that same gym uses the Ram for anything over 135, I watched him hit a 510 single-ply bench this may, and he's up in your age bracket.
 
I have the level two red sling shot and it takes close to 225 to touch for me as well. I have done up to 250(not absolute max) paused with it. Felt good. Wish it was hidden under my hoodie :)

I'd have to say so. For one, it will allow you to flat bench more often than you would be now! Lots of people swear by it. For me, it's helped me not lose the weight on the eccentric. Now I just have to reverse it . . .
