One of my close friends has a Chinchilla, I don't know if they are all nocturnal but his sleeps all day and hops around in the cage all night. He doesn't get much sleep lol

Yeah all chinchillas are nocturnal. He will be 8 years in september. They are like dogs, they have there own personality. He sleeps like a human though, on his side with is legs stretched out. He can hop pretty high too, they are very stong for there size. I bet he could squat double his bodyweight!. For your friend just tell him to put his chin in a room that he doesn't sleep in. Also give him some wood chews so he can occupy himself. When I come home or my wife comes home he starts to go nuts a get excited like a dog and jumps up and down in his cage. We also have a ball for him to roll around the apartment in.
