my Dr said my "protein" levels are high

After some bloodwork, my Dr said my protein levels are high. When I asked what the hell that meant, she told me that basically I wasn't using a lot of the protein I was consuming and it was building up in my urine (no urine test, only blood). I never heard anyone talk about this. Should I be concerned? I figure the problem is one of two things...

1. I am not drinking enough water
2. I am consuming too much whey and it is going through me so fast that it is not being utlized.

no, I have been drinking so much water lately, it looks exactly like water. Looks the same way going in as going out:D \

I have never really had bubbly or foamy urine.

Well, this is good. Bubbly urine can indicate that excess protein in urine and kidney issues.

Some bubbling is fine/normal. However, if it is large amounts of bubbles/foam that lasts then this may be an issue.

Reduce your protein intake for a few days and see if it affects your urine.

yea, I have a feeling the bubbles were just from the piss hitting the water. My dr didnt seem real concerned, just a little.

Certain days my piss will be foamy and others it's fine. Just make sure you drink plenty of water and look into enzymes to help your body digest.

Some info from our stickie draft in progress: (not to get you overly concerned or underconcerned)

Total Protein: This measures the total level of albumin and globulin in the body.

Albumin: Albumin is synthesized by the liver and as such is used as an indicator of liver function. It functions to transport hormones, enzymes, drugs and other constituents of the blood.
Globulins: Globulins are the building blocks of your body's antibodies. Measuring the levels of these two proteins is also an indicator of nutritional status. Increased albumin levels can result from dehydration, while decreased albumin levels can result from malnutrition, pregnancy, liver disease, overhydration, inflammatory diseases, etc. Increased globulin levels can result from inflammatory diseases, hypercholesterolemia (high cholesterol), iron deficiency anemia, as well as infections. Decreased globulin levels can result from hyperthyroidism, liver dysfunction, malnutrition, and immune deficiencies or disorders. As another important side note, anabolic steroids, growth hormone, and insulin can all increase protein levels.

A buddy of mine went to the doctor and was told his protein levels were too high. The doctor actually told him to stop lifting for a week, which I thought was rediculous. It's funny 'cause I usually consume a lot more protein than my buddy ever did.

You should ask if your "C" proteins were high.. That would be an indication that you're a good candidate for cancer. Which would help you to make some important health decisions down the road...

C-Reactive Protein (Cardiac) (High Sensitivity)
C-reactive protein (CRP) is a marker for systemic inflammation with linkage to blood vessel damage and vascular disease. This test is used to assess risk of cardiovascular and peripheral vascular disease.

Of course, I didn't write this.. Copy and paste:

C-reactive protein (CRP) has been found to be ubiquitous in sera when determined by a highly sensitive methods such as radioimmunoassay. Patients with some tumors appear to have much higher serum levels of CRP than others; in these, CRP seems to reflect the tumor burden. There is a positive correlation with TNM staging and the disease activity a the time of determination. CRP shows a high degree of 'uniqueness' when correlated with other routinely used cancer markers such as carcinoembryonic antigen, placental-like alkaline phosphatase and gamma-glutamyltranspeptidase.

I'm thinking you could keep protein levels high, but just spread it out more. LIke don't consume 80 grams in one sitting and stuff like that.

if you ejaculate prior to your test it will look like you are pissing lots of protein which sends red flags to the doctors. they will think you are dying. this sounds stupid but its true

List of Semen Ingredients

One average serving is 15 calories.
  • ascorbic acid (Vitamin C)
  • antigens - proteins that stimulate the production of antibodies
  • calcium
  • chlorine
  • cholesterol
  • choline
  • citric acid
  • creatine
  • deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA)
  • fructose
  • glutathione - the frontline: an important protein that kills free radicals
  • hyaluronidase - protein that breaks-up acid, to lower the viscosity and increase the permeability of connective tissue and the absorption of fluids
  • inositol - an alcohol that is a component of vitamin B
  • lactic acid
  • magnesium
  • nitrogen
  • phosphorus
  • potassium
  • purine - special alkalies, or bases that when mixed with acids create various types of salt
  • pyrimidine (this is basically the smell - organic compound)
  • pyruvic acid - a colorless acid that aids in metabolism or fermentation
  • sodium aka pure salt
  • sorbitol - A sugar alcohol (sweetener) with 4 calories per gram
  • urea - the chief solid component of mammalian urine; amazingly and stupidly, this is synthesized from ammonia and carbon dioxide to be used as fertilizer, in animal feed and in plastics
  • uric acid - tasteless, odorless crystalline product of protein metabolism; found in both blood and urine
  • vitamin B12
  • zinc
Yes, it is safe to say it is stupid.

well you certainly know more about semen than me. way to go homo!

My doc told me an excess of protein turns into sulfuric acid Which is the leading cause of heart disease. He said look at all the countries that consume the most meat. The same countries are leaders of heart disease deaths. He said it goes hand in hand. Also hes a vegiterian.
