My Dads hormone panel results?

Last week my Dad came to me and I know he wanted to chat. I asked him. What's wrong? We sat down and he opened up about struggling with his mood/libido and weight changes. He said during sex he starts off ok and then just goes completely limp. He was very upset over all this tbh.

He's 69 years old. He's very fit for his age and this is all new to him. I know his diet practices and tbh it's actually pretty good. He does have treats now and again but it's like 10-20% of his diet. So we ruled out the diet aspect.

I said. Ok it's bloodwork time. We done it through a separate company as I wanted to see his results and our health service doesn't test for. Testosterone/Estrogen/Prolactin which tbh is ridiculous. Even if your suffering with debilitating fatigue they still don't test for hormones. Makes zero sense.

Anyway. His results arrived yesterday.

FSH 27.4 (Range 1.51 - 12.4)
LH 17.8 (Range 1.8 - 8.6)
Testosterone 334 (Range 200 - 770)
Estrogen 13 (Range 10 - 40)

His SHBG was in range but on the upper end. Prolactin was good etc

I said.. What's your thoughts on TRT? He said. Is it needles? I said yes their are gels but the injections work better. He was like oh I don't know. Would that mean injecting for the rest of my life? I just said. Yes.

I'm on TRT and he knows this. I explained that at first it's very nervous injecting but after a few times it just becomes part of your weekly routine. For me personally. I can fill a syringe and inject in around 5 minutes. It's not time consuming at all and I feel nothing.

Do you think the best option here would be TRT? What about HCG? I don't fancy him touching clomid. Too many mental side effects tbh.

I know that TRT would transform him. He would balance out the weight climbing issues. His sex drive would return and he would probably resolve all his issues. I'm on TRT and can happily monitor everything from side effects to bloodwork.

Is this common in older guys? He's upset but also very thankful that I got him tested. His generation isn't into this bio-hacking lifestyle. He still has this (Just get on with it) mentality. I told him that times have changed and medicine has improved drastically.

Any thoughts?

Thanks

I just want to pre-face everything I'm saying with these are just personal opinions of mine and I am in no way saying to do this.

I'm going to speak on the topic as if I was dealing with my own father.

First I would talk about his FSH and LH being through the roof. That would indicate that your testicles are not working properly. If you wanted to take the easiest step first I would try supplements to lower those and see what happens. Odds are that it's not going to work.

I would then tell him we could try running a PCT type of thing with HCG and a serm to see if we could restart but again I think it's unlikely it's going to work given the situation (mainly age) .

I would never suggest my father staying on a serm as a TRT option. I believe it's dangerous long term and That's also why I hate seeing this dumbass serm on cycle approach to gear but that's another story.

Now, for trt, the gel is actually a great option when you're trying to address the two things your dad was complaining about so that would be my next talk. You do need to worry about transferring the gel onto other people and it can even come off in the wash and transfer through clothes. Well it's much less likely to happen there is evidence showing that it does happen. I want to say that I'm saying not that it can happen but there is evidence showing that it actually does happen. How much is debatable.

And finally at the end I would just say Dad all you got to do is take one little tiny shot with an insulin syringe one time per week and that'll probably fix most of the problems. Id get him some cailis too

Hey bud

Thanks very much for the response.

We've both been chatting today and he's more settled about everything. Yesterday he just seen red in the bloodwork panel and was like oh no what's wrong. I told him that it's normal to get out of range markers. Mines is always showing red lol (I showed him mine). He has this old mentality of... Us old one's just get on with it. I told him that's why so many people in the 70's/80's/90's/00's all suffered in silence. I said I bet your mum had insane mood swings in her 40's onwards and he straight up agreed. He said it was like a light switch and she changed. I said this is all hormonal problems that no one spoke about during those times and some medications never existed to actually address the issues.

He has been using cialis now and again. He gets some side effects that he isn't to keen on. His blood pressure dips and he gets very dizzy when standing up. He gets a 24 hour headache and stuffy nose. He trys to only use it sparingly.

I have bottles of testosterone in the house and could easily start him on it but I want his doctor to just chat to him about it. If the doctor does recommend TRT (Which they won't. In the UK they need you to almost be at a female territory before even offering it. It's an awful system here). I can atleast do a self prescribe TRT regimen that I can easily monitor. I could bring his testosterone up to around 700-800 and get his estrogen up to around 30. I think at these numbers he would feel 21 again lol. I actually think he's been suffering for a while and putting a brave face on. I noticed him wanting to nap during the day alot more. He was getting out of breath with some mild walking and he's storing fat in the classic areas of low testosterone regions.

Thanks for your input. I will update this on how it goes. It might help some people. We don't need to suffer anymore with these issues. It's the reason why I went on TRT myself. Low hormones and feeling like garbage constantly.

Thanks bud 👍
