Muscles causing "Dead arm" when I sleep. Anyone have this?

I'm a noob here on the site, so if I'm in the wrong place, or someone has already addressed this subject somewhere feel free to point out my incompetence! I have been noticing that as I get bigger muscle-wise I'm having problems sleeping. I'm a guy that likes to sleep on my belly and put my arms up under my head or up and out to the sides, but now that I've been lifting more and more I notice that my arms always go "dead" on me when I sleep like that. Even worse, I've experienced severe shoulder pain upon waking up twice in the last few months, almost like a strained tendon or something. I have a Verlo mattress that is only a few years old, somewhat firm (lower back issues - I was told this would be the best mattress style for that), paid about $1200 for the thing so it wasn't a cheapo, though I realize there are much more expensive ones out there. Does anybody out there have a similar problem and if so have you figured out a resolution (besides forcing yourself to sleep on your back)? I'm thinking about going back to a water bed, it didn't seem like I ever had issues sleeping on one of those. But maybe there's a better mattress out there, or maybe I should have bought a super soft one?? Of course I bought this before I got back into weight lifting so now it's looking like I should have bought something else, but I don't want to go out and waste another grand on a soft mattress only to find out I have the same problem. Any tips would be appreciated!

Try a pillow for stomach sleepers. It will put your neck at a more natural position and eliminate your pain. Or use your new massive bi's as pillows.

Look up ScottyDoc on here. He's the resident chiro and should be able to give you some advice. I sleep much the same way as you do, and get the occasional dead arm that you talked about. The best one is when you sleep with both hands under your pillow and wake up with both arms, shoulders and upper back asleep. Makes it a little hard to roll over ;)

yea this is my deal also. ive pretty much learned to sleep on my stomach with my hands at my sides as dumb as that sounds.

I can't sleep on either side to save my life, I can only sleep on my back, arm will go to sleep on my side. Aggravates the hell outta me.

Just noticed my arms are falling asleep as well in the last week or 2

I have no idea how to post with my iphone app yet, so had to get to a computer...but I've been reading and apparently sleeping on your stomach is not so great. Obviously the arm thing, but also messes with your neck and back. Haven't had that yet thankfully, but was looking into different pillows and ran across a couple, the face down one is freaking hilarious but I could totally see myself using it lol. Well apparently I can't post links or images yet because I don't have 50 posts so if you're interested google up "Snoozer Full body Pillow" and for a good laugh go to Buy dot com and look up "Relaxo EZSLEEP Face Down Speaker Pillow" - so awesome

Since I bought the harder bed, sleeping on my side is out too, always wake up with a stiff shoulder that way. It's looking like back or nothing, but somehow I always end up on my stomach. I may try the torso pillow cause this is getting annoying...if anyone's tried one of those let me know how it was before I blow $50 on a weird pillow.
