Huge movie goer, especially war movies. In my opinion, Saving Private Ryan is the best movie ever directed, if that helps put it in perspective. Well I’m going to see Warfare tomorrow night and I’m STOKED. I’m a huge fan of Alex Garland, the co director. The main director is Ray Mendoza (ex navy seal) who was actually Alex Garlands military advisor on Civil War. I actually liked Civil War but it wasn’t what I was expecting. Only the last 15 minutes was real action, but that action was pretty legit. Well apparently this is suppose to be what I wanted Civil war to be, and the trailer looks so promising. I legitimately think this might be the best war movie since Black Hawk Down. I will be holding this movie to high standards and I will for sure give an honest review tomorrow night or the next day. So if anyone’s seen it already let me know! (No spoilers though)

Movie was phenomenal. I do legit think it’s the best war movie since black hawk down. I’ll be honest though, still think overall Black Hawk down might be better. I thought it might possibly be the best ever but I need to just accept the fact though that no movie will come close to Saving Private Ryan. The movie wasn’t overdone with CGI but still had a bit. Even with some CGI, it’s one of the more realistic war movie since act of valor. When **** hit the fan it never let up after! Very intense movie.

I prefer the ones a bit older like series Band of Brothers and epic movie Bridge over the river Kwai. Also, when George C Scott did Patton was amazing, lets not forget Kelly's hero's for some humor ! and then the classic Dirty Dozen.

The most realistic for me is def Saving Private Ryan .

Some of the most depressing acts of atrocity which left me feeling as if humanity has no compassion left were in Schindler's list and the boy in the striped pajamas. Not much need for CGI or laser guided drones to keep the attention during these.

Band of brothers is my favorite show! It’s in my bio lol. I loved dirty dozen, one of my grandpas favorite and we watched that countless times, I am younger so I’m a little partial to the newer ones, but platoon is up there on my list! I actually haven’t seen Kelly’s hero’s so I’ll be watching that soon! Also agree with schindlers list, I couldn’t imagine going through the holocaust. Makes me realize how much my younger generation takes for granted the freedoms and pleasures we have.

I'd put Platoon in w/ Deer Hunter and Apocalypse Now , it shows the negative / bad side effect of how war traumatizes people. Those are pretty severe, First Blood is similar but more of an action movie than a war movie.

All of those movies are on my go to movie list! So is jaws, since I just noticed your profile pic lol

I am jaded when it comes to combat depiction on film and never look for realism. Expect the worse. Michael Caine who was a Korean War combat vet tried to advise the director of some errors and is told they have to film the way they do or technically correct speech/movement would not work on film. The spread out and be very quiet of actual practice clashing with the need to fit the actors within the lens width and have dialogue.

For which movie?

It is on youtube. Not a good film. Too much talking, bunching, etc. I recall reading one combat veteran wrote actors can never get that pinched eye look someone has in combat or the way a body compresses to form as small a target as possible and the ability to wrap around/into terrain to blend in.

Seeing WW2 and Vietnam actual footage and it is quick fleeting views of the enemy and much confusion. Here is an example at Tarawa
especially at 8.19.

Oh darn. Maybe I’ll still watch it because my grandpa was a marine in Korea so it’s still interesting. yeah I can’t even imagine because I never served, and I’ve never seen combat, so I’m sure the real thing is completely different.

I am probably being fussy. It is a movie not a documentary. Did enjoy it for the British character actors. They add spice to any film.
The one good Korean War film in my opinion is Pork Chop Hill and that made it seem to easy to get up the hill vs. what I read in the book about the battle. LOL I can't help myself.

When I watch a historically based war film and think it is interesting, tend to find a memoir and campaign book to read further. Will write again with some films which are recommended viewing.

WWII in HD. 2010. The last great WW2 documentary in my opinion. Vets still alive add so much colour to what was occurring.
