Mouth guard while lifting?

This might be a completely retarded question, but I was wondering if anyone uses a mouthguard while lifting. I've noticed over the past week and half, when lifting heavy, I've been clenching my front teeth together. I'm actually pushing my jaw out so that my front teeth meet. It's gotten to the point that they are sore.

A side note... I've been taking an AlphaMax and X-gel stack for the past week and a half. Coincidence?

Hey hard boiled, i used to use one made by some expensive sports company and of course sponsored by jay cutler. I stopped using it after a while. Its a thing of personal preference, I bite down a lot also, yes a mouth guard protects your teeth but i feel better without it. You just need to realize that you are biting down and control that stimulus. Best of luck

I see a lot of powerlifters do it. So if its bothering your teeth i would and work on trying to not do it. ha

I use it and I have to say, it really does help.

I catch myself grinding my teeth when I start getting tired, like in rows or RDL. My PT says to push the tongue in to the top of my mouth. A mouthguard is a good idea and might be the same thing as doing the tongue. Wearing one looks badass though and I like that.

Thanks for the feedback. I bought a mouth guard but haven't used it yet. Doing squats last leg day, I noticed me clenching my front teeth again mid set and remembered your tongue suggestion choccyswag
It helped, thanks! Helped me focus on my breathing too.
