Legend
Mirko "Cro Cop" Filipovic Still On The Fence Regarding Retirement [Sep 23, 2009]

Mirko "Cro Cop" Filipovic has not yet made a decision to retire at this time, despite recent reports and statements that had suggested that he was finished in the sport. Speaking in a recent interview, Cro Cop stated that reports of his retirement were premature and that he had not made a final decision in the wake of his loss to Junior dos Santos at UFC 103 last Saturday night.

Here's Cro Cop's take on things, which includes a pseudo-retraction of any retirement statements he may have made previously;

"Although it would be for the best to stay out, I would like to do 2 more contracted fights with the UFC and then end my career. Simply, fights and training are in my blood, I still haven't made my final decision, it can happen that I finish everything day after tomorrow, but I would like to in fact still do it. After the Dos Santos defeat I was hot and the statements were not founded. Things are not all that black".

What is able to be confirmed and what may have led to the retirement speculation and reports is that Team Cro Cop has been disbanded with Cro Cop instructing team manager Zvonimir Lucic to release all Team Cro Cop members including Igor Pokrajac, who made his UFC debut at the same UFC 103 card, falling to Vladimir Matyushenko via unanimous decision on the event's undercard.

Mirko Cro Cop Retires

Saying goodbye to a legend in any sport is never easy yet that is what I find myself doing today. Just a week ago I was clamoring for a Crop Cop resurgence at UFC 103. Today, I sit here knowing I will never again see Mirko in a ring or a cage again.

Said Cro Cop; "I have no motivation left and it's time to leave. Thank you all for supporting me."

One of the most severly struck by the news, is Zvonimir Lucic, Mirko's manager and most reliable cornerstone throughout Cro Cop's numerous battles. Following his last conversation with Mirko, Mr. Lucic was instructed to release all Team Cro Cop members from their respective duties.

Never again will I see that once glorious left high kick that many feared. Did I know it was coming? Yes, I did. That is why my picking him to beat Junior was a "shocking pick". Many of us knew he was done but not many really wanted to believe it, at least not those of us that truly love this sport and the beauty that is seen amongst all the violence.

So here I sit thinking about Cro Cop and to him I say thank you sir. Thank you for all you have done for the sport and for being a fighter that was not only respectable but highly entertaining to watch.

Now time to go drink some beer.

Yeah. He was done a while ago, the Cro Cop of old would never have needed an eye gouge to beat the living hell out of a douchebag like Mustapha Al Turk.

I don't think he should've ever come back.

The most elite athletes often fall the most rapidly. Case in point: just a few years ago Mirko CroCop was arguably in a position to challenge Fee-eye-ee-eye-aye-dor after the OWGP.
