Major GI distress- help

Ok, so the past week and a half has been brutal, particularly the past couple of days. Really flares up after dinner. Only real changes to diet starting last week was I started drinking milk again(after a long time of not drinking it) and I used a different marinade on the beef I prepped, which extended into this week. I used new beef today with no marinade, and the cramping and whatnot wasn’t as severe and violent, but it still wasn’t a good night at all. I started using Lactaid milk this week, and that hasn’t helped at all.

So, here is a usual day’s meals:

Protein/veg smoothie
Karbolyn shake during workout and pwo shake, or oatmeal, egg whites, yogurt, etc if off day

Chicken breast, sweet potato and green beans for lunch, with 16oz milk

1scoop whey, 2scoops oats in afternoon

Beef, rice, broccoli and 16oz milk for dinner(after this meal is when all hell has been breaking loose)

Milk, egg whites and or yogurt for pm snack after work

Before last week, I was not having issues. Stomach would occasionally be irritable but nothing serious that I would even think twice about. As of last week, I am having multiple unpleasant trips to the bathroom per evening. Cramping. Gassy, diarrhea type movements. Blood in the toilet. I’m more or less fine during the day, a little gassy but I attribute that to the 3500-4000 calories I’m eating.

I’m going to omit broccoli tomorrow, but what else am I missing? I got some Gut Health in today. Any other suggestions?

Just get rid of the milk man. You clearly can’t tolerate it. Not worth it

I’m not convinced it’s the milk. I have never had issues with dairy before. Cheese, cream sauces, cream in my coffee, ice cream all no problem. I used to drink a half a gallon of milk a day no problem. Switching to Lactaid hasn’t made a difference.

I had issues yesterday, then came home and had two glasses of Lactaid and it didn’t bother me at all. My stomach is specifically blowing up right after dinner.

Egg Whites, Broccoli, Milk all scream red flags and are normal indicators of very bad bloating. I would cut all 3 and see if you feel better doing so. Broccoli is a very gassy green veggy that is notorious for bloating. Egg Whites are very bad for a lot of clients I work with, some can tolerate them, but better safe then sorry.

I would do exactly as indiciated above.Eliminate foods that are noted for bloating which are the 3 i indicated above. Your eating sources over and over again that you don't tolerate and now its catching up to you. I cut broccoli out over 2 years ago and its been the best thing for my digestion ever. No point in eating foods that just do not get absorbed. You need to start playing the elimination game.

I would get rid of the milk. Gut health is great and I always have a digestive enzyme with any meal. I think this is even more important when bulking and eating a bunch of calories.

Something else I would note is rotate your fiber source (broccoli). For a while, that was the only veggie I ate and had problems. I then started to add other green veggies in place of of, but not completing eliminating it. I have read that eating too much of a food, one can build a resistance to it and then it could cause GI issues. Don't know if this is true, but it helped me.

So no milk today, or yesterday after one small glass in the morning. Today I ditched the broccoli. About 90 minutes after eating the beef and rice for dinner, had a bit of cramping and a really strong urge to hit the head. Not nearly as bad as Tuesday and Wednesday, but still very easy to identify.

I think beef is a component of this. Milk, beef and broccoli in the same sitting might have been the perfect storm.

I’m gonna try eating the remainder of the beef I have for lunch instead of dinner, and see if I get the same urge. If it still does it, I’ll cut back on the beef to just 3 meals a week.

So when you roasted me for saying broccoli can cause bloating, you actually secretly agreed with me?

I know a lot of people that when they started eating a lot of beef, they got diarrhea for a few weeks then it disappeared. There is a facebook group I'm in called "zeroing in on heath" where people switch from standard diets to only beef and this is a common problem

Until your gut recovers ...you will be sensitive to everything. Give it at least a month without the main problem makers like milk...and with a pro biotic before you assess if for example beef is a problem.
