Low Carb Diets Are Just a Fad! - Topic of the Week

Yeah some interesting research. I am a dietitian soxi, had to learn it all. Great book called Good Calorie Bad Calories by Gary Taubes. Covers a lot of material

Great book.

Although I do agree sucrose is the root of many problems, I also feel that there always has to be an enemy for the medical community to villify

My huge issue is the medical community as a whole keeps picking the wrong enemy (sugar/refined carbs is bad, saturated fat not so much).

As my user name implies, I do eat a Ketogenic diet (low carb, moderate protein (.8g per lbs LBM), high fat).
I've found that diet is very individual and there is no one size fits all and of course as with any diet there's a lot of bad info out there.
Ketogenic diets work great for someone like myself who is carbohydrate intolerant, has metabolic syndrome or insulin resistance. I've lost 60lbs eating this way and was never able to do that on a normal diet even with tracking and cutting out junk.
However there is a lot of fine tuning to be done with it in regards to getting enough Electrolytes (this is why most people feel like crap), not eating too much fat, etc.

You're learning what is right for your phenotype (genes). There is no one size fits all diet. Takes fine tuning. Great job on the weight loss

Thanks! Total loss is over 100lbs, I say over cause after the scale passed 330 lbs I stopped weighing myself.

Now I just need to figure out what my body likes workout wise and set.

I have been on a high protein diet for many years and my carb days are when I feel sluggish so that if the day I don't work out

As some have already said before, it depends on the person and their goals. Unlike what some contest prep coaches do, you can't cookie cutter diets for people. It has to be individualized. Myself, a low carb diet (specifically the ketogenic diet) has worked very well in reducing overall body fat. Performance stayed the same (amount of weight moved decreased but had more energy - was on a cut) but I also had a big improvement in overall quality of sleep. In short, I don't think it's a fad at all but good topic!
