Looking LESS defined with pump

Most people seem to chase the pumped up post workout look, and dread their more flat pre-breakfast / first-thing-in-the-morning look...

I’m having the opposite experience pretty consistently since starting to add heavy weight training. I wake up in the morning looking far more shredded and defined, with good separation and vascularity - Especially a day after working anything in the upper body - it’ll be noticably bigger and more defined.

During and after training I get pretty good pumps whether or not using a Pre, but it’s more like the area is just swole - Definition is actually significantly reduced - and although the muscle is hard, it’s less vascular and striated for the rest of the day.

I’m pretty lean generally and much prefer my normal look to the more puffy/thick post workout look. Anyone have a similar experience with this??

I’m wondering if it could be related to the insulin spike from taking Xtend during the workout - I feel the product helps keep me going harder for longer, but it’s probably the most processed ‘food’ in my diet, and I’d say I’m generally pretty insulin sensitive with a combination of very little simple carbs in my diet, daily IF, and fasted calisthenics and contortionism in the mornings.

After breakfast and during the day I look a bit less defined than first thing in the morning too, even on non training days.

Anyone think this could be related to the BCAAs - Or have any advice on supplements or little tricks for tightening up the skin/reducing that last bit of water retention (sustainably/long term, not for a photo shoot) for someone who’s already very lean?

Sounds like your diet is poor and maybe higher bf than you think. I get pumped and 30x more vascular. My veins have veins. If you’re sensitive to insulin it should help you. I have a pop tart before every workout and spike insulin with other products

Post a picture of what very lean is. Because if your diet is clean and perfect and you’re very lean you should never be experiencing a puffy look after a workout or anytime besides carb load days.

This is most likely due to weight gain or your body is getting accustomed to what your taking. I would give your self a short break and begin again.

Like said above a short break and then back at it may resolve your issue.

I always look better in the mirror after I smoke some weed. Not as much while on LSD.

That's my .02

If I’m understanding what you’re saying correctly, it makes enough sense. For example, after I work arms, they look “bigger” and more pumped and vascular, but I do also feel like I lose some separation in the triceps and peak in the biceps when I still have the pump. I’m fairly sure that there’s advice not to “over-pump” certain body parts like arms and quads before a competition as it can lead to a loss of apparent definition/separation.

I think what you're experiencing is common and some of the posters are not getting an accurate picture of what you're painting. First, I am very vascular and somewhat lean. In the morning, I can see separation in my quads for example. If I work my legs though and have a killer pump, the vascularity is there and even increased, but there is less separation. The muscles look bigger though. More than likely, the reduction in definition and increase size it due to more blood in the muscle.

Regarding your last question, BCAA have nothing to do with this. If you want to lose that little bit of water, trying drinking more water, adding lemon, eating asparagus, and even an AI could help.

You could also try to supplement with a GDA like SlinMax. SlinMax will help drive nutrients from your meals into your muscles. Users report food pumps, an increase in vascularity almost like one would get from training, after eating a meal with a lot of carbs or high in calories.
