Looking for advice

Just turned 36 in August and was wondering what would be my best route to fix this. I think I entered the world of over training but read that this is a pretty rare phenomenon. I have always had an issue not knowing when to take a break. I have suffered from over training in the past. When I was in high school I was swimming, running winter track and still trying to lift weights. I was pretty much in the pool and gym for about 5 hours a day and barely sleeping to the point where my immune system essentially shut down. Currently I have found myself in the gym for about two-2.5 hours a day. 5 days a week were heavy weights, abs and cardio. On the two days I am not lifting I was having a hard time keeping myself from the gym so I would end up doing cardio for about an hour. This cycle started because I wanted to cut bodyfat was staying the same and even getting heavier, So i went harder and it got to the point where I was burning about 800 -900calories a day doing cardio and only eating about 1800-2000 calories. To make matters worse when I saw I was not losing weight i started cutting calories even more... around 1500 a day. My sleep has been bad for the last year because of my job I average about 4 hours a night. For the last 2-3 months I have had no sex drive and when I am working out I have had zero drive. I just push through my workouts and feel lethargic. I am always feeling down or anxious during the day. I I have intense hunger as well... I am hungry for carbs all the time and I never had this issue.

I am hoping someone can help get me on the right track. After reading my post I sound like an idiot but when i was going through this... working out harder made the most sense. I was wondering how much time is usually needed off to recover ? I also feel like I will get out of shape when I take time off so I will always be tempted to go run or workout. Thanks in advance

I'm not your age, but sleep and correct diet should fix your over all drive for sure. I would get some blood work done.

You need to reverse diet back up to a healthy place dude. Add 200cal/day each week for 4 weeks then 100cal/day each week until the numbers on the scales start increasing, then wind back 100cal for your maintenance.

At this age it becomes increasingly difficult to recover from big deficits and you must eat plently of greens and healthy fats to maintain a healthy hormone balance.

I'm 37 just finished 4 months cutting lost almost 30 pound it's not the first time usually to recover return to normal ( sex drive / normal sleeping/god mood ) my body need about 1 month you need to back up your calories I recommend you fats 100-150 g a day or more Large amounts of healthy fats will saturate you which will led you to less carbs consumption, high fats is also the best/fastest way to rise your test levels which I'm pretty sure is lower because diet and overtraining

If your training correctly you shouldn't have to train more then an hour a day
Just because you can workout for 2 or 3 hours doesn't mean you have too
All your doing in the gym is trying to stimulate your muscle enough for it to respond which doesn't take much
What happens is your body adapts to the amount of stress so if you keep doing these marathon style workouts your body adapts and you feel that you have to workout for longer or you didn't do enough it's all in your head
Take a break for a couple of days then come back
Go hard for an hour and leave you should even be sore again
You probably don't even get sore anymore
I bet your chasing it looking for it like a drug
Sometimes we just need to take a step back to go forward good luck I hope I made some sense
