Little powerpoint/Nero help, slide shows?

So anyone know the sure fire way to put a slide show and music if possible on a CD/DVD to put in a DVD player?

I just dont wanna waste discs, basically my Qs are...

- Use a DVD or CD?
-Powepoint or Nero work better? (i think nero toadd music)
-Data file, DVD, SLideshow etc etc?

Any help would be great, likei said, dont wanna waste discs n stuff.
