Good stuff rodja, as always. Guess that's why the best way to get better at bench is bench, squat is squat, deadlift is deadlift.

I just look at assistance as a way to prevent structural imbalances, but this is nothing you don't already know.

Forgot I had a video. You can tell which ones I didn't keep proper leg tightness.

interesting row variation, it would sure help someone get used to setting that lat shelf that we want to in the bench press.. nice last couple workouts L&S, 290 for a double after all those squats is darn impressive, same with 240x15 rows. I tried swimming a couple times when i was in college, i just dont have it lol. plus at my age i dont have the patience to learn something that I'm that bad at, wish i would of learned to swim when i was in grade school though.

Thanks capo! Just plugging away, trying to get better each and every day.

And you're far past the critical period. Learning proper motor patterning in the water is highly unlikely past a certain age.

Years and years of playing with technique in the water has given me pretty good kinesthetic awareness. Has helped me considerably in the gym.

Yeah i figured that much.. I would just always walk past the pool and look over and watch people do lap after lap. I just always figured i was a descent athlete, so i could just jump in the pool and figure it out. such a fail haha.

It's a different animal. Every sport is.

That's another reason lifting is so much fun for me, it's new (relatively). Put it this way, from age 19-22 I dropped around 2.5 seconds in a race that lasts less than a minute. And that's considered good. Thousands and thousands of hours for all that.

Tell me about it. I have an Olympic trial cut (guess the powerlifting equivalent would be an elite total?), but it's like being a 700lb squatter when you have malanichev squatting 1016. At that level, the role of genetics is largely the determining factor. And, of course, PEDs.

You think Phelps is natty(I don't count weed lol)?

Nope

Edit: but that doesn't, for one second, take away anything he accomplished. Because at that level, it's just part of the game.

Yea I think every person with an est in there title is. I agree it doesn't take anything away...Id have no athletic idols if I thought that way haha

Victor Conte of BALCO fame has said~ 80% of Olympians are drugged to the max in one form or another. The competitors are always ahead of the testers.

Edit: the public is hard on Armstrong when literally the top 100 in that particular sport were doped in every way they could devise.

Yea it really just is a way of life if you are trying to get into the top levels of a sport. Most of those people probably have great genetics; throw some desire, dedication, and PEDs on top of that and anyone would be hard pressed to compete natty.

There's also the genetic ability to withstand and maximize huge amounts of PEDs.

Yupp, this is especially true in BB'ing. I'm sure powerlifting to a somewhat lesser degree as well.

Hard to say with Olympic sports like swimming. It's all hush hush.

The anabolic amounts are roughly the same at the highest and heaviest levels. There likely will not be insulin involved, but GH is still present for healing.

So true. This goes for every sport I think. It's almost sad that there's a falsified image that young kids strive for, like work hard and you could be this.

Thoughts: Workout went well. Got some decent pop off the ground with deads.

Press was so-so. I kept losing tightness and, as a result, had crappy balance. You can see a slight bobble on my first rep. Gotta work on that. But I'm getting stronger so I can't complain.

Stay strong AM.

I like the ferocity in the set up. I guess I gotta catch up to you while you catch up to capo :D

OHP is one of those lifts that you have to lift as hard and as fast as you can or it ain't going up. Also I realize it looks like I'm push pressing my 1st rep but I'm really just straightening my legs from dipping under the bar

Edit: and you'll get there rob! These relatively low load lifts take awhile to progress

Yea I wanna work a little more in. When I tweak my current program I may take in one more vertical press in place of horizontal. The way it is now is push press every other week.

And thanks brotha man!

Heck of a job on the pressing!!!! I love the intensity! Btw I've been following...just quietly! Lol

Just watched the vid. I really need to get my press up...I want to get to bodyweight eventually...nice work.

Yeah I'm sitting around a BW e1rm. Don't know if I could actually get it, but I'll get there soon enough.

I realize bench practice is king for getting the bench up (specificity), but the focus I've given to my OHP these last 2 months or so has shown bright.

Thoughts:
Squats went great. An additional rep on last week's PR and much better depth. Really happy with where my squat progression is at. Comments/critiques welcome.

Bench set-up is getting better too, I think. We'll see come heavy day.

Pull-ups were pretty difficult not gonna lie. Note I do them from a dead hang.

Rest of the workout was a breeze. Stay Strong AM.

Nice squats...they look to me like you'll keep making progress on them. ;)

Ive been looking at some romaleos from last year... rogues got some marked down to 129

Awesome job!! Form looks great on those squats!!

I understand what you're going through. It's hard to pay $$$ for something you don't even know if you'll like. I can only speak for myself when I say they've made a big difference.

I'm exhausted guys. No particular part of my body is sore, I just feel weak/tired. Need to make sure I get a lot of food/water in me today

Great squat progress L&S!

Lol they do help, not gonna lie. But almost anything is better than barefoot

What's wrong with barefoot?...

Take a power nap too 30mins and bam you'll feel better

I do this on my lunch break frequently. Makes me feel so much better an refreshed.

Thanks! Feeling really good about where I'm at.

And there's nothing unsafe about it, to my knowledge. You're just more stable and able to create (and maintain) more torque in appropriate footwear.

Tried to take a power nap, but I accidentally dosed off for two hours...
