It was written by English poet and clergyman John Newton but its first recording is an acappella version from 1922 by the Sacred Harp Choir.

Haha, thanks. I grew up on all kinds of music. I still listen to about every genre there is. Being only 21, I can't even begin to imagine what my music capacity will be in the future. lol
