Laptop computer question

I have a pretty kick ass HP laptop, that I need for work on a daily basis.

Well it took a crap on me. It still works perfect but the screen is black. Is there a light bulb in there? It is covered under waranty but I am scared to send it through the mail. Also backing up all my files won't be too easy.

Any help?

Are you sure the screen is on?
Most laptops have the ability to turn on an external screen and turn off the internal.
Should be an F key combo, check the keyboard.

HMM..might have busted the connector ribbon for the LCD screen.
There is a little ribbon that send the the image data to the LCD, I have seen where those are pinched somehow when closing the notebook and they break.
Sound like you will have to send it in dude. Just take it to a mailbox place and have them pack it for you and insure it. Those mailbox places will do a good job of packing it for you bro.

Sounds like the backlight is out. Used to be a service technician for an electronics company and I saw it all the time.

Thanks man, I am afraid of them screwing it up some how. Not to mention all my files and info that is jammed on that machine.

Is there an S-Video or D-sub(monitor) output on the back? If there is try hooking up to TV(S-Video) or monitor(D-sub). You may get lucky and it will autodetect and you will have a pic...

take your hard drive out before sending it in...then it wont be an issue with your files. Most places usually have you do this anyways.
