Killn' The Cube: My powerlifting venture begins

I set the ****er up backwards in the rack twice now. My gym is real small so maneuvering it back right feels about a warm up lol

Good call in farmers, too

Thanks Sean, this place blows me away. I was deadlifting and this monster comes up and we're talking about training. This dude is a 585 raw bencher. He use to do strongman, but PL's now. Cool as hell. I guess he is good friends with John Meadows.

I don't know what kind of SSB it was. There's 4 different SSB's so I just grabbed one, lol.

I'm definitely going to mix up my ME work. I've got the rest of this week and I'm taking a much needed deload. My body is rocked right now, I'm surprised I pulled 525 today. The big dude said it shot up fast and he said he wouldn't be surprised if I'll be pulling 600 in the next 2 months. We'll see, I'm just excited to be there.

If you beat me to 600, I'm unsubscribing and holding a grudge FOR EV ER. ;)

Haha, you're already there Sean. Or 10-15lbs from it.

You squat 2x more than me, you're deadlifting almost 600, you have a dong the size of a walrus and now you want me to buy your supps?

Bully.

Are you ****ting me?! Did you get to meet him? That's incredible. I'm Mirin so hard.

I did not. Ed, the 585 raw bencher, mentioned Monday that Ronnie came in earlier. I was benching today, looked over and saw that he signed the 200# DB.

I did, however, get a chance to take a picture with Ronnie at the Arnold a couple years ago.

Pretty sub-par workout today by the way. Not worth posting. I accumulated ~12 hours of sleep this week thus far. I have 34 pages of info to memorize for my exam tomorrow. Then, literally, 270 PP slides to memorize tomorrow night.

I've become a pro at procrastination. It's a wonder how I keep my GPA >3.5. Actually, if my financial management final bodes well, this will be my 3rd consecutive 4.0 semester. Not too bad considering I'm in a pretty stringent business school and my first 4 semesters of college I didn't go to play "school" and had a less than appreciable GPA.

Almost there; one more semester after this. Then graduate school, maybe.

Why the maybe Cincy? And will you for the love of god make time for a nap or something?

Depends on if I can get it paid for, if I can get a good job with my bachelors, or if I want to go another route. The good thing about my situation is I have a lot of connections.

I slept 3 hours the night before last night and 1 hour last night. I passed out after class today for a solid 6 hours. Only 2 exams next week, so the hard part is mostly over.

Late night workout:

WG pull ups:
BW+35x5x3

Lat pull downs: 15x3

Straight arm pull downs: 12x3 SS band pull aparts 25x3

DB curls: 12x3

One arm cable curls: 15x3

All I had time for. I slept too long and left myself 40 min to workout before the gym closed. Some is better than none though.

I got some DE squats/deads tomorrow and DE bench Sunday. Everything got pushed back a day because Thursday I had to study for 10hrs. Not a big deal considering I'm heading into a much needed deload. Really focusing on getting them clean calories.

Westside: DE lower

DL: 365x2x6

Played around with form a little bit. Ed suggested I move my feet out to hip width. Felt good, pulls were flying up. Pulled sumo a set w/ 315 and it was so easy. Going to throw some more in.

Squat:
275x2x4
315x1x4

I used a real squat bar today. These weights are as if it's 45#, but I think it was heavier. Maybe 60? The thing I noticed about a squat bar is it's a lot thicker and it sticks to your back a lot better. I'm going to try to get the bar lower on my back.

Reverse hyper: 50#x8x3

Lying hamstring curl SS leg extensions: 8/12x3

Standing calf raises: 12x3

Good workout. They keep this place hot and I sweat like a MF'er. I also notice I'm working a lot faster here. Less distractions.

I saw two of the biggest bodies I've seen since the Arnold here. They had to be pro BB'ers. They're walking around at ~300 easy.

Good deload session today:

Bench:
225x5x3
275x1

Ass lift problem, eliminated. These benches are legit.

OHP: 135x5x3

Tate press: 30x8x3

DB side lateral: 20x12x3

Pull ups: BWx10x2

T-bar row machine/set up: 8x3

Pull over machine: 12x3

Hammer curl (bar): 95x6x3

Concentration curl: 20x15x3

Got some blood flowing, my main objective is recovery. I've overreached for 3 weeks straight, need to let the body heal.

Note of the day: the BB'er I mentioned Saturday, approximately the size of a house, was repping 405 for 12...on incline. Wtf?

It's great the first couple times you use a 55lb bar and realize you are hitting bigger weights haha

A good bench makes a huge difference.

Definitely. They are foruza benches or whatever, they're great. I couldn't lift my ass unless my feet were spaced very close.

Haha for sure. Are bench bars 55 too? Because I would need to readjust my weights.

405 x 12. Dude gotta be huge. That's crazy

For sure man. ****ing tank. I've been to the Arnold and seen some monsters, this dude is on their level. He's definitely a pro.

Certain bench bars are. My gyms one bench has a 55lber with sick knurling! It's also the one with the fat Pad. I try not to get too used to that one lol

The signature forza red benches are sick.

My gym used to have one, but he put it away. Competition only. He has another black bench exactly like it.

Hmm, I'll have to ask someone. There's 8 different benches w/ different bars so hell, I'll probably never know what I'm lifting for certain. Lol.

That fat pad would be nice!

Yup, exactly. There's 3 of the red ones and around 5 EFS ones which are nice because they have peg holes.

Too bad they took it from you.

Exams this week are killing me. I'm going to do some mobility and some core work before bed, but gym today was a nada. I thought this week would be more skate, but apparently my financial management professor thinks I'm rainman with the numbers. Class average is a ~45%.

Deloading squat/dead tomorrow. Probably will go too heavy, but hey, sometimes I need it for stress relief. Then I might start westsiding over, to account for the new toys I have at my disposal.

If you have a lot of odd bars at your disposal, don't worry so much about the numbers themselves. Just count plates and accomodating resistance and keep track of your PRs with each bar and tension setup. The only time the numbers matter is on the platform, bruh!

There's an incredible amount of bars here. I think they've been collecting them since the dawn of time.

That's very true bro, but I would be lying if I said I didn't care to know how much weight I was really lifting. I'll just approximate the bar weight in the lower range, because I would rather under estimate the weight than over estimate.

Deload lower:

Deadlift:
405x2x2
455x1x3

Sumo:
315x2
405x1

Felt awkward as can be. I think my legs were spaced too far apart.

Squat:
200x5
250x5
290x5
310x1x3

SSB GM: 150x8x3

First doing GM's with this warlock. Good stuff, just focused on pushing hips back, staying tight, and exploding through.

Reverse hyper: BWx12x3

These were exponentially easier than the first time I did them. Could have done sets of 20.

That's all. Got the blood flowing and kept it relatively light. I have a list of things I need to work on. Got to get better.

Another semester down. I needed a 100% on my financial management exam to pull off an A. I got a 100%. I literally studied 25 hours in 3 days for that thing. Now I guess the professor is implementing a curve because the class average is so damn low.

If that curve drops me down to a B I'm going to be unbelievably furious.

The curve wouldn't drop you man. You'll be good. Unless you mean he's changing the weight? I feel ya tho I'm going hard now.

It just depends if he actually grades on a curve or not. Most professors don't, they just move the whole set up systematically. A real curve very well could lower grades. Not in my circumstance now that I think about it, though. But, say, I got a 90 and a large proportion of students have a 95, then I could get dropped down to a C or D.

Yeah but with a 100 you'll be fine and I doubt he would use a real curve if so many did bad. Either way you'll be fine. I just crushed my first hard final so one more big one left.

Yeah I talked to him, I got an A. Was a very challenging class. I'm no Warren Buffet.

Good luck man!

Was suppose to bench today, but in celebration of the end of the semester:

Squat/Deads (deloadish)

Squat: 315x5

Deadlift:
425x2
475x1x2
425x2
Sumo
315x5x3 (fast AF)

SSB box squat:
205x5
225x5
245x5
275x2x3 (fast n toight)

Rack pull:
405x2x2
475x1
495x1

Standing unilateral hamstring curl: 15x3 (weight unknown)

Leg extensions: 120x12x4

The end.

Found out today that the DL bar is 65# and the squat bar is 65#, That means, when I thought I pulled 525x2, I actually pulled 545x2. Well, almost, lost grip at top but I don't see it grip being an issue in the future. Also, I've been pulling 475 3x a week thinking it's 455. I ain't mad, hay.

****ing deload huh. Monday is ME lower and I probably won't be 100%. Life..

Yeah that's not a Deload. Hahahah. Good work. Making me want to get back to my heavy work. Damn knee. Soon.

Good wrk on your test. I spanked mine. Ended up with a 98.4 in the class.

Dude, you're getting close. Can't wait to start seeing you hit some PR's.

That's crazy high dude. Nobody in my classes score that high.

Deload upper, an actual deload. Nothing worth mentioning.

My middle to upper back is sore as hell. It's from the SSB, I'm certain. That bar is a gem. My back has never been sore there, hopefully it helps my squat!

Westside-Week1: ME Lower

Squats:
290x3
335x3
365x3
385x3 (PR)

385 felt amazing, I buried them. I'm not going to lie, correct box squats have helped my squat. I feel strong in the hole.

Deficit deadlifts:
425x3x2
475x3

Front squats:
135x5
185x5
225x5
275x5

Reverse hypers: 100x8x3 (this thing is amazing)

Very, very pleased with today. Took a more cognitive approach to everything and it paid off.

I bounced back fast from Friday's shenanigans. I'm getting bigger and stronger without a doubt. This summer I'm going to be packing on some serious strength. No bull****, just nails on programming and working like a dog.

Tmrw I'm going to be doing some serious conditioning, breaking out some strongman equipment we have.
