JW and low-carb diets

I remember reading about how an extract compound in mormondica chirantia will drop blood sugar if you don't take JW with a carb meal. What if you're on a CKD-type diet - would you still be able to use JW and reap its benefits? Could three significant drops in blood glucose per day be dangerous?

ALR wrote that the compound "tends to increase insulin receptor activity/sensitivity in lean tissue resulting in rapid glucose/amino acid up-take," so maybe taking it with BCAA's that include glutamine could help?

Thanks guys.

That's kind of disappointing. Maybe smaller carb meals taken with every dose could be the middle ground? What's a minimum amount of carbs to take to blunt the hypoglycemic effects?

Looking into this, I found something:

"A number of phytochemicals have been isolated from ampalay. It was hypothesized that the fruit contains more than type 1 hypoglycemic compenent. Suggested hypoglycemic compounds include a polypeptide (p-insulin), a steroid mixture (charantin), and a pyrimidine nucleoside (vicine). Attempts have been made to obtain further information regarding its mode of action. Possible mechanism include a decrease intestinal absorption of glucose. This was evident among tested rats after the oral intake of fruit extract. Secondly, extract from the fruit have been found to stimulate insulin release from isolated pancreatic cells. It may have a role in the renewal of -cells in streptozotocin (STZ)-induced diabetic rats or alternately may permit the recovery of partially destroyed -cells.2 Lastly, ampalaya shows certain insulinomimetic effect such as increase glucose uptake in muscle, stimulation of lipogenesis and depression of hepatic glucogenetic enzymes on tissue preparations in vitro.

In vitro insulinomimetic effects have been observed with the fruit and seed protein. The active protein is believed to be an 11 K Dalton protein (p-insulin or v-insulin-insulin). Baldwa in 1977 used the v-insulin-insulin subcutaneously among human diabetic. This extract is homologous to insulin obtained from animal pancreas. It showed a consistent effect with the onset of action within 30 to 60 minutes.4 In an later study by Khanna et al 1981, subcutaneous p-insulin led to a significant fall in blood glucose levels in 11 IDDM patients whereas a similar effect in 8 NIDDM patients did not reach statistical significance."

Ampalay = bitter melon = momordica charantia. P-insulin is the same active compound in Anabolic Pump, disregarding the tannins that add to the effect.

Every website I've find about momordica and p-insulin has said that the hypoglycemic effects peak 4 hours after ingestion. I'm really interested in when peoples' headaches come on and reach their worst when they take JW without carbs. Maybe this could be a suggested 3.5-hour window for carb ingestion, half an hour after every JW dose, for people really focused on recomping or dieting on it...

Any ideas, ALRI people?

First time I used JW I was low carb I lasted 9 days, then I got really dizzy light headed was kind of weak and in a fog that last day.

Two weeks in now, not on a low carb and not having any problems...

Thanks for the input. I figured out how to stay relatively low carb and work around the blood sugar drops.

Forget my earlier parallel with USP products. That's a pandora's box I'm not going to open.

30-50 is a good idea.
