Amazing experience. It was the Georgia State Meet. For being the strongest, most testosterone fueled people on the planet, powerlifters are some of the nicest guys on the planet. I started warming up in the back with a a bit of an older guy. We went through the motions and worked up to a single of about 300lbs. He was a helpful guy, giving me all kinds of advice on my form. I finally asked him what he was planning on opening with. He told me 650lb, and said he was hoping to hit 800lbs to break an all time record for his division!!! I was amazed because the guy basically just went through the motions with me to give me to give me advice and help me get comfortable with the experience, he never would have bragged about his numbers if I hadn't asked.

Anyway, my results were:
Squat: 363.5 lbs
Bench: 226 lbs (I hit 248, but didn't wait for the rack command)
Deadlift: 413.5 lbs
Total: 1003 lbs in the 220lb weight class

A girl threw up on the head judge while pulling a 425 lb deadlift and still pushed through to get three white lights. If a vid pops up, I'll post it.

Edit: Derp, wrote 213 instead of 413 on my deadlift =P

Congrats. It is a great experience and one that will help you grow.

Sounds like a very positive experience. You can't stop now though. Fall/Winter's bulking season. How long until you hit 1200lb combined? :)

I could get to 1200 easy as long as I eat big. The training part of lifting is easy, it's the nutrition part that throws me off. I have no problem driving my numbers up for a meet, but it's hard as hell to do it without getting fat, lol.

im just curious...do powerlifting meets allow certain wraps and belts? i guess what im saying is do they regulate what you can use and do meets exist that are for only raw lifts? I ask because i have wanted to partake in a meet one of these days and i have never used a bench shirt or belt or straps. Any knowledge on this would be greatly appreciated. Condrats Sweekaters on your first meet! I admire your dedication.

It depends on the fed. At the meet I went to you could compete in the following:
Raw: No wraps, no belt
Classic: Belt and wraps
Open: All gear allowed
If you want to compete raw, I would find a raw division to lift in. When you have that many divisions in a meet, the competition is not very stiff. I was uncontested, not just in my weight class, but in the entire teen classic division. If you are thinking about a meet, just go to powerlifting watch and sign up for one close by. Even if you are unsure if you will like it or not, you are guaranteed to get a lot of good advice and you will most likely have a blast.

Great job. Remember, you can always enter an equipped meet and lift raw, the bare minimum is usually a singlet. Yes, you're at a disadvantage, but many people row their own boat; i.e. not chasing records, chasing PR's. Anyway, great job.

Video of the best part of the meet just went up:

I really hope this goes viral, talk about committing to the pull.

great I still havent ever competed I need to. that good I bet you reall improve as having a total to improve off of. I bet you will be up to 1100 in a month or 2 lol

That vid is gross lol..

You could add plenty of weight to your bench, you got a lot left in the tank!
