Journey to Elite

I noticed be switched wraps, was he having issues with his equipment and feel?

Fckin A, great bench and deadlift PRs, huge. And great squatting even if it's not what you were hoping for.

What did we end up with here? 1740?

I'm fried after this meet. I know what I need to do with squat and that is strengthen my abs and lower back since that is what I feel like is holding me back. I mistimed my warmup for squat horribly and it came back to bite me in the ass. The weight didn't feel unbearably heavy, but I couldn't maintain once I hit the hole. In a huge stroke of irony, I thought my bench was going to be crap and I hit a nice PR on it. You never know until you get on that platform.

Overall, I can't complain with a 633/473/633 since it's a big PR total.

Congrats Rodja!!!

Great job Ryan, that's a pretty good day. Knowing what you need to fix is half the battle.

1739 is elite isn't it?

Awesome work Rodja. That last pull looked pretty smooth. For as much as I know you always say bench isn't your best lift, you always seem to PR on it pretty nicely. Great work again Rodja, strong finish.

I almost lost it as it was slipping out towards the final 1/3 of the lift, which is why I got 1 red light. I honestly have no idea where the hell that bench came from outside of using a better bench pad. I felt like my lats and traps were immediately locked in with absolutely no sliding whatsoever. I nearly just took a token raw opener since my confidence was so low.

Oh...forgot to add that the chick I've been training for awhile set the state record for both squat and total at 165.

It's two days after the meet and I woke up just a tad lethargic, but still feeling really good. I'm thinking the 10 days of only mobility work prior to the meet helped me not only on the platform, but also my post-meet recovery. I'm debating on doing some light work today to get bloodflowing to my lats, shoulders, and triceps. I've written out my next 2 phases of training, which are both raw, and this will not be included in that. I'm going back to some basic block work with added work to the lats and arms for hypertrophy.

Looking forward to the next phase of training. Glad the hips and shoulders are good.
You know, I moved my grip width in a finger on both my raw and shirted benches (terrible time to experiment) and they both felt so much more stable in terms of holding my lats and scapula. The longer I've been benching for PL, the more I've brought my grip in. You'd think having longer arms that a wider grip would be better to reduce the ROM, but....the more I look at it from a biomechanics perspective, the more it makes sense to bring them in since they closer to the base of my upper back and lats.

Glad ya said that. I was just experimenting with the bar last night at work. I just unracked it and held and kept playing with grip widths until I didn't feel my AC joint want to explode. Narrow was no pain.

I didn't even notice that I grabbed with my ring finger until I was done and looked at the videos. More than likely, I'm using that as my grip for all assisted benching.

Basic bloodflow session to get a good sweat going. Took my time rolling out and did some stuff for the hips as well. Bench felt really good with plenty of pop still despite just doing a meet. I can't complain about how it all went and there's just minimal tightness in the RC.

I did everything today sans belt to work on my core strength. Everything felt pretty good overall except that I fracking suck at conventional and have pretty much forgotten the small things that I need to do. That, and I can't remember how to get a good setup. It'll come with time and practice, though.

Probably doesn't make it any easier just coming off a meet where you lifted a tons of freaking weight! Haha

I've only pulled conventional a handful of times in the past year. It's finding how far and wide I need my shins in relation to the bar that trips me up.

Lots of stuff done tonight. Scapula wasn't set nearly as well today and did extra work to keep the area strong. Hadn't done the bench with weights suspended in a long time and they suck. A lot.

What do we have here...?

Wellllll you see what you got right there is your standard issue golden (Orange) ticket to 501, by the looks of it. Jealous!

I need to make some alterations to it first, but 501 is around the corner now.

Find the article Driggers did on breaking the jack in.

First thing: trim the sleeves and get them re-sewn. The one you sold me still bunches up on my bicep and hurts like hell, so I'm trimming another 1/2 inch off.

56. Need to tighten the sleeves. I've gained about 1" in the arms the past year or so since I wasn't able to do much chest work.

I don't know how you ever got in the one you sold me.

The 52 is death on me, for you it must have been just wrong...

I was never able to get into it. I tried to get in broken in by Evan, but we nearly had to cut him out of it.
