Is my Pro-Liver bad?

I have a bottle of pro liver that expired 3/07. I have now started taking it. It has a horrid smell, is that the typical smell or is bad. I have been getting bad gas and I don't know it is to blame, could I possibly having a hard time with getting used to the milk thistle?
