is it ok to drink cappuccino before a workout?

i love my cup of cappuccino in the morning but i'm going to start up my workout routine again, i used to have black coffee before a workout but there's nothing like the comfort of waking up to a frothy coffee to boost moral. i drink the middle cappuccino in the image below. is it ok to drink this before a workout? can i still lose weight/tone up? or will it effect my gains because of the sugar and creamer content.

thanks xxx

Of course straight black coffee will be the best option for a pre workout drink just to get some caffeine. The answer to your question has a lot of variables. It depends on what all are you consumming throughout the day and with the cappuccino does it fit in your cal budget for your stats and goal.

I’ve walked into the gym on many a cold winter night with a coffee or cappuccino in hand, and drank it pre and during training!

I say rock on my man!

*I don’t know how much sugar is in your brew….Overall I believe in calories in vs. calories out, in determining weight gain vs. loss…BUT that’s not an excuse to eat crap/copious amounts of sugar….I’m of the mind that you can enjoy a cappuccino in moderation! (If you were doing a bodybuilding show and meticulously dieting etc. that’d be different, but that’s not my thang)

well i'm a 5ft 2 woman :) and i have an hourglass figure, cross between mesomorph and endomorph body type. i can lose weight fairly quick and gain weight quicker. i usually stick to around 1200 cals per day but i know i don't always hit that calorie deficit because eating to a certain point just makes me feel bloated and nausea. i usually use sugar substitutes and so the cappuccino is my only source of cane sugar. i only have one sachet in the morning. i just got tired of black coffee i can't stand it, i guess i wonder if i can have the same weight loss/toning/muscle building effects after a cappuccino or is this something that can mess up my progress during exercise. i usually do a course of my rowing machine and dumbbell weight training. with the odd kickboxing cardio here and there.

i don't know if any of this info helps determine if cappuccino is my arch enemy or arch angel but i appreciate your help and any help after this reply. thank you :)

Do what makes you happy, enjoying life makes everything much better.

doing what makes me happy is great and all, but it's not going to get me to where i want to be goal wise.

maybe try getting a good brand of liquid stevia sweetener. all stevia is not equal. two drops of stevia in my cappocino do the trick. also make sure you don't use milk that has added sugar. lots of reduced fat milk has sugar added and it's on the ingredients list. milk fat is good for you and those calories are not wasted, so maybe go with whole milk

i appreciate your input and i agree, however the cappuccino i have is pre-sweetened with cane sugar and has creamer in, hence why i'm wondering if it will ruin any effort i put into losing weight and toning up. (bare in mind i only want one cup of this before workout - not throughout the day)

as for things you mentioned, i use erythritol as it doesn't spike blood sugar, lasts for a damn long time and actually tastes pretty good with my oolong tea or anything else i feel needs a bit of sweetness. the milk i usually use is skimmed powder milk because it lasts longer than liquid form.

get a Nespresso machine and a hand held frother. you can use the frother to mix protein shakes too.

if you need a heated frother then Nespresso has a nice and simple one that works like handheld frothers

i can't afford stuff like that at the moment but it is a good idea for the future. i guess i could get unsweetened box cappuccinos until then.

i seriously doubt a cup of cappuccino will make or break you goal wise, the important thing is that you have started up your workout routine again.

My 2c is simple, count your macros and calories and work hard in the gym. If you work these macros/calories into your diet I don't see an issue. Achieving your goals doesn't mean you have to give up every pleasure in life! We aren't pros or competing. Have the damn cappuccino ;)

If you'r still able to make progress, it should be fine. You could even do it pre/during . Sip before and during for some intra workout carbs.

I like coffee, unsweetened vanilla almond or cashew milk and stevia

what's your budget then? there's some good instant coffee out there. the hand mixer is big pp move tho. it lets you throw an egg in there like nothing

Agreed. Even just store brand instant coffee is fairly good and very cheap per serving for a nice pre workout get up.

i don't actually like coffee all that much unless it's iced and milky or frothy and creamy lol i'm a tea drinker. though i heard the benefits of coffee before a workout and so i started drinking shots of black coffee before a workout, however there's nothing more unappealing than waking up, downing a black coffee and then working out.

i want to unwind, relax and enjoy a drink before workout. some people said here that having cappuccino should be fine as long as i'm within my calorie deficit. so maybe some days i can have cappuccino and others black coffee, since there's somewhat conflicting info. i think this may be the best option because then i get to enjoy my frothy coffee and other days i have gross black coffee.

thanks for all your help i really appreciate it. such a great site with great people on it. bless u all xxx

i think the only real concern here is rather or not you are getting a real boost in performance. the cup of strait coffee usually has about 200 mgs of caffeine and that may not be the case with the packets.. I did a quick search, on the caffeine content of one of these packets.. they average around 65 mgs per pack.

as you can see there is quite a difference.

my recommendation would be to make a real cup of coffee and add crème with a little sweetener to taste. then you know you are getting a good dose of caffeine and also control what goes into the cup. surely removing all the fillers, artificial flavors and preservatives will make it more diet friendly as well as better for performance overall.

oh wow that's ridiculous, so there's more creamer in them and preservatives than coffee? well damn. surely there's got to be a boxed cappuccino/latte that has more coffee in and unsweetened. i need to do some research myself it seems. thanks for the tip tho i appreciate that, also appreciate you looking into the coffee content of the sachets, it's p*ss poor.

Great Idea !!

If I were you, I would have the Cappuccino with sweetener and pop a Guarana pill. In my opinion Guarana is superior to caffeine for energy.
