Interesting Nicotinamide Riboside Study

I've heard a bit of hype regarding nicotinamide riboside's potential uses/benefits for exercise performance, but I just came across this interesting study:
Our results do not confirm the previously reported ergogenic effect of nicotinamide riboside. The potentially negative effect of nicotinamide riboside administration on physical performance may be attributed to the pleiotropic metabolic and redox properties of NAD+ and NADP+.

Granted, it is a rat study, but isn't pretty much all of the hype surrounding it based on animal studies to begin with? Thoughts?

That's interesting. I wonder how it would correlate to humans? Especially given the massive difference in performance for the NAD+ group.

Has there been that much hype? I'm aware of only one study showing marginally increased exercise performance, and even that wasn't very impressive. The methodology was fairly different, (mice/mixed in food/treadmill vs rats/gavage/swimming), so maybe there's promise yet... but the current evidence isn't very compelling for linking increased NAD to enhanced performance.

I've read/heard a decent amount of hype surrounding it. Some of that comes from reps and people who are selling it, of course, but also some articles online. I do think that more of the hype is for other uses than exercise performance in healthy subjects though. I just thought that it was interesting.

Ah, I think I get it meow. I haven't visited the bestcreatinefora16yearold.com forums much lately. Presumably a company has recently come out with a NR product and their lead rep is promoting it with in-depth scientific explanations, dignity, and class...right?

No further comment... ;)

What? Nicotine? Yeah, Copenhagen boosts performance, but I'd recommend just using the gum :D Oh wait, we aren't talking tobacco? :D

It's hyped up because it's been shown to increase NAD+ in the blood of humans, whether that translates to any actual physical benefit might be up for debate.

Some of the issues people have had, anecdotal wise at least, when taking this stuff is finding the right balance of other nutrients to take a long with it. DAT had a whole system down, iirc the folks over at L-city take a combination of things too. could be that instead of a redux aspect (which im not saying is wrong), the mitochondria is just using more fuel of some sort due to hyperactivity and not being replenished, thus a decrease in performance. makes no mention of diet other than low fat iirc.
