Injection Problem Question

Yesterday I pinned for my 3rd time ever. As with the previous 2 times, it went smooth and there were no problems that I noticed at the time.

It was a glute shot with a 1.5 inch 23 gauge pin and 2.25 cc's of oil (with relatively low BA content). I stuck the pin in about 1.25 inches, aspirated, and then injected slowly (about a minute total to push all of the oil in). Anyway, that was yesterday...

Today my glute is swollen in an oval shaped pattern that begins at the injection site and ends about 2 inches to the right of it. It is sore to the touch, but not when I move, walk, etc. Also, it is not red, but may be slightly hot to the touch (I honestly can't tell for sure; if it is hot though, it is only very slightly hot).

One thought that I had: I injected this same glute 7 days prior to the injection yesterday. Could that be the problem? Is this something to worry about? Any advice is greatly appreciated.

I use to get that when I was doing HRT because I did the same site everytime, i think its just a buildup of oil in one spot. Mine got the same way, sore to the touch, lasted a few days to a week and then went away. Start rotating sites and you should be ok. Just keep an eye on it, if you get spreading redness and a fever then I would see a trip to the dr in your near future.

It may be the start of an infection, but more likely it's just a knot. Sometime a warm bath or hand help massager can dissipate it. If it get's worse or becomes hard to sit and walk, you need anti-biotics. Or, maybe you just cut a small blood vessle that's too deep to see a bruise, but leeked a little after the shot. The next few days will tell.

Another thing it might be is that a taking a minute to inject is way too long. Your bound to be moving the needle around inside which could also cause imflamation and soreness at the site. You don't want to force it in fast but a minute is overkill. Also after 7 days the oil should have dissapated from the site. But it is still wise to ratae sites.

Really, a minute is overkill for 2.5ccs? I wouldnt know, I'm just curious b/c I've heard others say different... -K

Everyone says different! They all use 25g though.

But I'm with Jarhead on this one. I try to take 15-20sec. tops. I use 23g for everything and 22g for glutes only.
Otherwise, your slicing yourself up inside whether you think so or not.

Hmm...too much conflicting info! LOL. Well, now I have a question for ya Dr. D...I've got some decent sized delts (47" chest 54-55" shoulders @ 5'11" about 15% bf or so), how deep would I want to pin shoulders? Oh, and for the legs, if I had all 1.5", should I just leave .5" outside, or stick the whole 1.5" in, or make sure I have 1" for delts and quads?? :D (It seems like having excess needle would make it more likely I'm shredding muscle, is that the case??)

Thx.

I have pretty big delts as well and in my opinion I think its best to stick with one inch pins as long as you bury it all the way. i've used 1.5 when I've had to but I feel it's harder to keep it steady and at the right depth along with aspirating with one hand reaching across your body. And maybe it's mental, but I'm not comfortable with sticking the whole 1.5 into my delts. I guess it also depends on bodyfat percentage as well.

I would use 1inch 25G for everything. For delts, tris, bis, etc one can even use 5/8" needles
I put an equal amount of force on the injection from start to finish. I have never timed myself but I know it is not 60secs.

i've been using 25 gauge 1" for every site as well. i used to get the knots or next day soreness at first, but when i heat up the oil prior to injection, the pain is pretty much non-existant. what works for me is loading the syringe and putting it on top of the coffee maker when i'm making morning coffee, works like a charm.

I tend to try and go reasonably quick... A good massage afterwards dissipates the oil better than puttin git in slowly IMHO, and putting it in fast tears up your muscles less as well, especially when you are new at it and nervous as can be.

Anyone have tips for pinning glutes? Everytime I try to turn around like that, preparing for my first time pinning, I just get cramps in my side. I've got a thick lower back and I'm not the most flexible guy in the world, so I'm gonna need some help...lol :) Aspirating seems like it'll be the tough part.

Well as far as the cramping, I have the same problem and have to use a mirror that's on my bathroom wall to do it so that I don't have to turn as far. That works pretty well. Now the shitting...you're on your own. bet that gets messy.(that is what you meant right?, "you get cramps and ****"):D

If you have trouble injecting glutes, try laying on your stomach to do it.

When learning to inject, I think practicing on an orange is a good idea before ever actually injecting. This will allow you to get a feel for having the syringe in your hand and an understanding for the pressure needed to pierce the skin. It is also a good way to improve on injecting and aspirating with only one hand. I have found that the more familiar one becomes with a needle in ones hand, the steadier and easier the injection process becomes.

Thanks for all the replies! Well, another day down and things are a bit better. The lump is still a bit tender, but much less, and it seems to be going down in size a little bit. This is annoying though--it's like my ass cheek has got gyno-LOL.

So, next time I'm going to try injecting faster and I'm going to try massaging the muscle afterwards. Any other suggestions to keep this type of thing from happening again?

Since things seem to be getting better can I rule out any thoughts of infection or abcess? It's got me a bit worried.

I doubt it's infected, it would be getting more cystic and painful by the day. It would also be hot and red if close enough to the surface, quite obvious. In this case I might take a shot or 2 of pen.G procain a few days in a row just to be safe, but I think your fine.

ROFLMAO. No, I don't start shitting all over the place or anything. After your comment, I decided to edit my post. LOL. (I can just imagine cramping up and starting to drop terds all over the room! Ha, ha, ha...that would be a riot!) :icon_lol:

Now that's some good advice; never heard of either of those and I'm glad they came up:) Thx, size! :goodpost:

Just to add: I use 1" 25g for everything also, including glute shots. Just try and stretch out a bit before injecting if you are getting cramped by twisting like that. I just stand up and twist a bit to do glutes, but stretch out some before :)

Stretching oughta help...thx Jweave :) Anything to keep someone (myself definately included) from cramping up with a needle sticking out of his ass :icon_lol: That would suck!!
